Reviews for Alamosa KOA

| Good place for a base camp while visiting the Great Sand Dunes National Park. About 20 minutes away from the dunes, but just 5 minutes away from Alamosa. The park is clean and well maintained

Clean restrooms, level sites, all gravel. 26 miles to NP (a must see) and 4 miles to town. Campus Cafe in town (GREAT breakfasts). Good wifi.

This park was an ok KOA. We were at the Dunes all day so we used their showers which were fine. We would have like some shade. Tips: Pack for a trip to the dunes just like you would a day at the beach. It is an exhausting experience, and you will want to sit and relax. If you are lucky, the creek will have water in it so you will want towels for kids. Some kids had swimsuits on. Your feet will burn on the dunes. Shoes of some type are a must. Also, visit the Stations of the Cross statues (free). They are beautiful. There is also an alien watch tower with a very unique woman working there (5$/car).

We asked for a reprieve on checkout time as we had 3 loads of laundry and 5 showers to accomplish. This was complicated by the fact that the bathrooms were closed at 11 so we had to wait extra time for our boiler to heat water. With permission we were checked up on several times. We were told another party was coming in for our site (check in time is 3pm) and the entire campground was less than 1/3 full. We were also approached and told that if we did not leave by 12:30 they were going to charge us a late fee. We left by 12, one hour past checkout and only 3 showers accomplished. This was not the friendly KOA we have known and expected. The location is great but the welcome is not. Would not stay here again.

Gravel roads and sites, no shade. Well maintained, small store with basic necessities and pizza delivery service. Sites are of adequate size, pull-troughs are OK

We stayed here for 3 nights tomgisit the Sand Dunes and Zapata Falls. We have a 37 ft TT, and travel with 3 kids and a dog. We also had friends tent camping here at the same time. The staff was very friendly, they deliver pizzas and firewood directly to the campsites, and they also have all you can eat pancakes on Saturday and Sunday for $5. We will definitely return.
