Reviews for Beech Fork State Park

| Animal tracks and cigarette butts.

Given the time of year, there were only six other campers in the Old Orchard, so the peace and quite was great. I hear that the place is packed to the gills during the season because there are so few state parks in the area. My site (#43) was level and had adequate electric. The water pressure is strong, so don't forget your regulator. The dump is in the extreme rear, so park back, bring plenty of hose extension, and watch those slides at the electric box. There is strong AT&T signal, but no WiFi provided. If you consider doing laundry here...don't. There is only one old rusty washer and two matching dryers. The washer leaks, so if you drop something on the filthy floor while changing machines, your item will be compromised. There is no folding table, but there is a sign over the sink that states that you can not wash anything in it due to a state law. The river is controlled by the dam and was only ankle deep in late March. My dog and I had a blast playing in it, but I strongly suggest that you wear water shoes because of the debris on the river bottom. Cans, metal pull-top lids, kitchen tile pieces (?), and all kinds of Tetanus related items. Add that to the fact of the cigarette butts that were ALL OVER the place and my question is this; Is the camp host (who has apparently lived there for years) too busy collecting junk to decorate his site with to fulfill one of his most important duties of picking up litter?? People that smoke do not seem to realize how offensive it is to see these nasty butts all over the ground, and what about those swimmers and their bare feet...get with it! The Overlook hike salvaged this property. It is an easy walk (level 2) up hill and was riddled with animal tracks including bear, cat, deer, and rodent. The trail was muddy because of the recent weather, but nothing that was unavoidable. The view was good and there is a photo op at the overlook on a big rock. My dog and I came up on a herd of white-tailed deer...surprise! There are plenty of open spaces to play with your dog at this park, which is a big plus for me. As others have stated, the road coming in to the park is a snake. Hughes Branch has been recently paved, but the mailboxes are close, the shoulder non-existent, and the branches threatening to your paint job. The road lasts about two miles and will keep even the most experienced driver on their toes.

| Nice park but no lake swimming

We stayed in Lake View loop for a family get together. The park itself is clean and has plenty of space. The bathhouses were always clean and ready to use. There is electric hookup only so make sure you fill your fresh water up when you first enter the park. There is no lake swimming within the state park! Do not do it. You can rent a boat from the Beech Fork marina, then you can swim in the lake outside of the state park. The loop had nice level lots and they were set up where you could do group camping. We had three campers and it was perfect for our family meet up. Each site had a fire ring and a picnic table. We bought our wood a few miles down from the state park for $8 a wheelbarrow full. We enjoyed our stay but really didn't like being water front but unable to swim.

| Beautiful Park, but......

Loved our time in this quiet, clean campground.....but... the six mile road into the park is in my personal opinion, dangerous for big rigs. Narrow with a hairpin turn and sharp drop offs, I'd suggest anyone with a 40+ foot rig carefully consider driving this road. We left a day early, just to get out early on a Sunday morning. We still encountered ten oncoming cars. As much as we'd love to come back....this road is a deal breaker. Oh - and absolutely NO Verizon signal anywhere in the campground.
