Reviews for Big Sur Campground & Cabins

| Bad hosts!

By user-5893046... on 2017-10-23.

We stayed here several times and enjoy the scenic and forest views. This camp site is hosted by the owners and we had bad experiences Repeatedly. Out of three occasions; First bad experience was when we camped there one morning my wife and her girl friend were talking and laughing enjoying they're morning coffee. I witnessed an older rude woman tell them as she passed by to keep their voices down. I know they posted quiet times but, this was ridiculous at 11:00 am telling us to lower our voices. Get real! Second incident occurred when we stayed on a holiday weekend and again, they told us to keep quiet two hours prior to quiet time. They repeatedly told us to keep quiet or we would get evicted. The next day we complained about all the warnings we received just do to laughter and they told us if we weren't happy there we should leave.. Since we were 2 family reservations it was not easy to pack up and leave.. They basically did not care to hear any negative feedback and preceded to have us leave the camp ground...WE WILL NEVER VISIT THIS CAMP GROUND AGAIN AND HAVE INFORMED ALL FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO NEVER VISIT THIS CAMP GROUND AS THERE RUDENESS COULD NEVER MAKE UP FOR THE BEUATY OF BIG SUR WHICH CAN BE VISITED AT MANY OF THE OTHER NEAR BY CAMP GROUNDS WHO TREAT THEIR GUESTS THE WAY THEY SHOULD BE TREATED..

Noise from people that only think of themselves is my number one complaint. I appreciate a park that enforces the quiet rules. If you are asked three times to keep it down then YOU are the problem not the park!

| Really nice location, rather expensive

Really cool to stay between these trees and next to the river. But pretty expensive! We paid $85 for only 1 night (not even full hookup), even though for a site next to the river.

| Not value for money

A campground with beautiful Redwood trees, river on the property, very dusty/no paved roads, efficient laundry. The dump station was out of order and had been for a while, so we had to dump at a state park one mile away, at cost of $10 and inconvenience to us. The main bathroom door is locked in the open position, shower cubicles only have curtains and as the walls do not extend to the ceiling, showering was a drafty experience. I asked Management if the door could be closed, but this could not be done. With the main bathroom door open, the first two showers cubicles can be seen walking past the bathroom. Definitely not worth R75 per night.

| Excellent customer service!

Enjoyable stay! Booked the largest pull through site #80 over the phone, paid $75 deposit for 3nts. It had been raining a lot, so they called us in advance to let us know about road closures, alternative routes, and campground conditions. Upon arrival, they charged us $15 less, so we paid $70/nt, which was a nice surprise! You need to drive slightly downhill from SR-1, then cross a large bridge to reach the check station. The paved road ends at that point and maneuvering is tight for big rigs! They helped guide us to our site and helped us park without incident, in the rain. Great customer service! There's no service of any kind (maybe text messages), no cellular (Verizon nor AT&T), no Wifi, no Cable, no Antenna TV. We read books and watched DVDs on rainy days and went sightseeing and hiking on sunny days. It's a gorgeous campground by the river, nestled in the Redwood trees. We would definitely stay here again!

Stayed here 4 nights and was happy with everything the staff did to keep the place clean. Grounds were muddy due to rain prior to our arrival. Some how they were able to keep the bathroom clean. Free coffee in the mornings. Bring your own thermos so you can enjoy it! Staff in the office were always nice and had great information on hikes for the kids. Playground was nice to burn some energy. Basketball courts had extra basketballs in a basket for your use. The Big Sur river was awesome to listen to and was flowing. I have nothing bad to say about this campground. We will definitely be coming back to these grounds during the summer months to experience the grounds dry. I suggest having jerry cans of fuel since diesel is pretty much not existent once you leave Carmel. Regular gas is pricey around $5 a gallon.
