Very nice little park. Great grilling areas, Views of the lake are great & close to town if you forgot some things.

| Quiet, can see the stars at nite

Very good deal for only $14 nite! Elevated over lake, so windy. Surprised how many campers were there this time of year, but this may be the best time to travel in the SW. We had e, w and used the dump station outside the CG. Self pay.

| Amazing!!!

We were traveling through from Austin,Tx heading into California and needed a stop over. We took a chance on this place and we're very pleased! Super quiet, clean accommodations and full hookups for $18 or water and electric for $14. There are a few short loop hikes down to the water, 1-2 miles. We fell asleep to an EPIC lighting storm and rose to a beautiful sunrise! Great find!

| Nice Park - Not too Close to Carlsbad

Nice park, pretty quite, and in decent shape. Did not use the bath house while there. The first 10 sites, with sewer, did not have electricity so we used just an electric and water site. Everything seemed fine while there. Each site had a nice shade shelter and picnic table. The lake was but a short hike away. Other than that, no much there. Reason for 1 star deduction: 1) Upon arrival no one was at the park office window. I parked and went around since I had made reservations in advance. I tried to enter the office and it was closed. I decided to visit the restroom very quickly and when I came out the office was open. I went in and the lights were off. I yelled for some service, and finally someone came out, but seemed startled. The ranger then came and told me where to go to get to my site. That was the extent of it. A little odd. 2) As mentioned the sewer sites were all having electrical issues. We did not have any issues until the morning we were to leave. At that time the electricity went off for our site and many others around 7:00 a.m. This also meant the water would not work since their pump apparently ran on electric. Long story short, we were leaving so no big deal, but since this park is in the desert you can see where this might be a concern. We often leave our pet in the camper and had the electric gone out this could have been tragic. It was still not restored when we left, and I believe this happens fairly often.

| Nice view of the lake

Nice visit. Clean, quite park. View of the lake. Close enough to Carlsbad Caverns. Great price. 4 stars, because the showers suck. It's more of a mist that last 30 seconds. Ladies don't count on washing your hair. Also, the people that reserved the space after us wanted to get in earlier than the 4'oclock check in. We got a knock on the door at 10am from the Ranger wanting to see our reservation even though there was a tag out front. Asked when we planned on leaving. It's 10am! Check out is 2, why are you even disturbing us?! Just because the next tenants wanted to arrive early. Geez. So that was a tad annoying.

| Cool Lake Park but Old Facilities

By user-5288289... on 2017-10-23.

Facilities were clean. Only used electric. Decent sites with good views.

| Nice and secluded

There are only a few full hookup spots. We were lucky enough to get one. Our Site was elevated so we had to walk down some stairs to get to the picnic area of our site. to the rear and street side was a significant drop. Enough to warrant railing so that you wouldn't drive off or walk off of the hill. Most of the sites are only 30 amp so make a reservation if you need 50 amp. The park itself is very nice. The lake is very nice to swim in. The park is only about 30 minutes from the caverns so staying for the bat flight is not a problem. Very close to town. We will return to this park. We camped there in a fifth wheel.

| Loved our stay!

Has a reserved, first come first serve, primitive and day use areas. We spent 1st nite in day use area at $8 as all hook up sites were full. The day use area is nothing but a parking lot but it allowed us to have a first jump in the morning for a hook up site at $14. The primitive area is exactly that and the road to get there is not one we would take our 35’ class A towing a car down. There were a couple of Class C’s down there. Sites are like being in the desert but have space, a grill a sheltered picnic table. Overlooking the lake, fabulous! There’s a ramp for boats and fishing but it’s catch and release as the sign says the fish are contaminated:-(. Nice walking trails to lake and up to office area. And the stars at nite!

Although this was on a lake, it wasn't a very attractive lake. No trees on or near the water, very desolate. Access to the park was adequate, the RV sites were level, and the hookups worked well. It was convenient to Carlsbad Caverns and Roswell. Not a destination but an OK place to stay.

| A Gem!

What a beautiful campground. Fantastic views. Extremely reasonable, $24 per night with electric and water hookup (they have a dump station too). The camp host, Roy, was very friendly and knowledgeable about the local activities (evening bat show at Carlsbad Caverns). Definitely a recommend.

Nice park, good prices. Camp host was excellent, very helpful and friendly. We didn't use the shower facilities but they seemed clean and functional. The only downside is that it's quite a distance from Carlsbad Caverns and Guadalupe Mountains National Parks which was the reason for our stay. We would definitely stay here again though.

| Nice state park.

Good size sites but only a few pull thru. The water and electric sites are $14 nightly and are first come. The sites with sewer must be reserved in advance and are only $18. Only a few of these were occupied but we couldn't use them since we didn't make a reservation. Really dumb. But the $14 sites were nice and they do have sewer dump. It's a winding drive about 8 miles off the highway. Very quiet and clean.

| Very nice state park

Very nice campground with views overlooking the lake. Water/electric for $14 dump station on way out. Easy drive to area attractions. Playground very nice, covered with a canopy. Campground host was pleasant

| Suffering from no staff presence

By user-unknown on 2019-08-09. Stayed 2019-04-15 to 2019-04-23

Stayed 7 days in April 2019. Wonderful views & sunsets. Enjoyed trails. Had a nice site. Terrible experience with bathhouse and garbage. Sign on men's/women's when arrived "no hot water heater - go to KOA for shower." Both signs came down, but the water was still frigid. Many campers grumbling about it. Someone kept signing a cleaning checklist, but bathrooms never cleaned entire 7 days - including over busy Easter weekend. Bathhouse garbage cans and campground cans all overflowing. Ran out of hand soap & T-paper & never refilled despite completed checklist showing all "OK." The ONLY park staff ever present was a daily check at 5:30pm to make sure every camper had paid, but they never used the money to install a water heater or clean up. Visitor center perpetually closed. Overall, a very negative impression.

| Beautiful location, nice views

By user-unknown on 2019-08-09.

Nice private sites with covered picnic table. Not all sites level, but plenty of fist come W&E and primitive sites available. Beautiful views of lake where you can catch and release fish, DDT contaminated. Long walk to lake. 2 star ding for bathroom and showers. Prison surplus toilets without seats and cold showers. Toilets need to be flushed many times, waste of water. Only 1 faucet in 3 working in basins, no soap. Floor is filthy.

| Okay park

By user-5204580... on 2019-08-09.

Camped here for 3 days. Mostly all back ins, slightly level. This is a good state park not the best but good. Very open and in the desert. About 45 minutes to the Caverns. Did not see any camp hosts. Trash cans were overflowing. Don't think I would stay here again because of the long drive to shopping & sights.

Nice park semi level spots, gravel. Only reason for 4 stars is you xant get into the lake to swim here, you have to drive to other side. Showers could be cleaner and you have to keep pushing button for more water. Also, it's pretty much a cold shower. We stayed a week and it was a bit to long. Not much in the area except the caverns, which I recommend and the night bat show. Close to Sitting bull falls also but very hot when we went and small swimming area full of kids so we didnt swim. I would recommend stopping but just a few days is plenty.

| Cheap but okay

By user-unknown on 2019-08-09.

View of Brantley Lake is nice but this place is hot in the summer with little shade. Showers aren t very hot and bathrooms feel jail like. Trash around our site. About an hour away from Carlsbad. Nice because it s cheap.

| Good for a state park

By user-4844360... on 2019-08-09. Stayed 2019-06-05 to 2019-06-08

The park was fine as a state park, better than most desert parks. Camp host was great and very helpful with good information of the area. Each site has a Cabana over the picnic table for shade as there are few to no trees. All facilities were clean and operational. Power and water hookups were good. Bugs were bad, but is was June and we have had a wet year to this point.
