Reviews for Camp Hatteras

| Very good choice

Clean and well maintained. Helpful, courteous staff. Beautiful sunsets on sound side. Internet download speed was 9 Mbps - adequate, though connection dropped occasionally. Only a handful of pull through sites for small rigs. As others note, be prepared for some windy days!

| Sound Side

By user-5840872... on 2017-10-23.

We have enjoyed staying on the sound side backed right up to the water. Yu can sit right inside/outside your RV and watch all the activities out on the sound. The best part however are the magnificent sunsets over the sound where the sun literally melts into the sound. Truly awesome. The sites on the sound side all have concrete pads/patios which we appreciate. The only amenities on the sound side are a bathhouse, tranquility and that sunset. It's quiet, laid back and no traffic except on Rt. 12 which didn't bother us at all. If you stay on the sound side and want to use the campground's amenities you'll have to cross Rt. 12. This was not an issue for us as we don't use anything over on the ocean side of the campground. We prefer the quiet of the sound side. Just be aware that most of the time it is very windy down on Hatteras Island and it can be strong and will rock your RV. This can be a bit scary at times.

| Love this Place!

We have been coming to this campground since 2011, with the exception of 2015. If you are looking for a place to just relax and not do much, this is the place to go! There isn't much around in the trivillages area and the restaurants in the area aren't very spectacular. But, if you want a place to just camp and spend time with your family this is the campground to visit! We always go the second week of July, this year we went July 6th - 16th. We did notice the first few days (4th of July week) that there was more golf cart traffic than usual. It appears that the campground now allows outside rentals, which they didn't in the past. My only other complaint from our last visit was that the area around our site was not maintained, but we were able to track down staff with a mower that resolved that quickly! The beach is never really crowded and the pools are always clean. They do close the pools for a bit for deep cleaning and it appears that they do that overnight, rather than during peak times. They do offer a lot of activities and crafts for the kids. The playground is great for all ages. I do like how this campground never seems to overcrowded, as we have noticed with the KOA. We will be returning next year!

So many sites available this time of year. We stayed right next to the beach walkway and restrooms. Ideal for this old couple to share time at our beloved OBX.

| A Beauty

We loved our stay here. We chose to stay on the sound side with our dogs. It was quiet, gave us expansive water views, and beautiful sunsets. It is an easy walk across the road where those with children can benefit from pools, playgrounds, and miniature golf. The dunes block any ocean views, but walkways put you directly on their beach. Several bathouses located around the grounds with clean showers and laundry facilities. Many events are planned in the clubhouse or conference center. We enjoyed the ice cream social and karaoke was held. Campfire s'mores, hotdogs, and other activities are planned. Fun for all!

Paid for a sound front site. You can see the sound if you're sitting in your RV but if you're sitting outside the vegetation is too high. This is just a flat piece of property with campsites on it. At least they are level. When we arrived and were assigned our campsite, we pulled over to it and found someone else in it. It took an hour for them to assign me a new spot on the sound. The desk help were apologetic but they had to get their manager to resolve it. When I asked why they couldn't put me in a spot that was open right now and rearrange someone coming in later in the week, since I was already here and sitting around waiting for a spot I was told that those spots were reserved...when I told the manager that when I called in to reserve a spot they told me they don't do that, he then gave me the excuse that those were reserved for long time guests...funny, my money spends the same as theirs...except my money won't be spent here anymore.

| Soundside views

I highly recommend the Soundside. We had a great view of the kite Surfers and beautiful sunsets. Everyone had cement pads but none were pull thru. Beach side your view is of the dunes but a shorter walk to the beach. Clean bath houses, laundry and overall camp. We enjoyed the Bingo night and ice cream social. Lots of crafts and activities to do for all ages. Even had pool aerobics at 9am. Only con was difficult turn around at check in and loud drunk neighbors. It got REALLY windy. Felt great but sounded like we were on a freight train in the RV

This campground has a variety of sites i.e. pull through, back-in etc. We had a large corner site. Parked on gravel but had a concrete patio with a table, chairs, picnic table and fire ring. The campground is well maintained, friendly staff, flat level sites, reliable cable TV, clean bath-houses and laundry rooms. Always a breeze which sometimes kicks up to strong gusts depending on the weather.

This place would have received a higher rating if the park administration would have been more flexible. When we arrived we were directed to the ocean side of the park. There are no ocean views since the dunes block that possibility. There are many ocean views on the sound of the park. I might point out that the sound side of the park is much smaller and it would make much better sense if they would have that open and close the larger ocean side . I might add that I walked over to the sound side and checked if there was water and power available and everything worked great This appears to be some kind of power trip we never received a reasonable explanation as to why that area was off limits . Go figure!

| Nice place

By user-5280788... on 2019-08-09.

The people here are very friendly. The sites are level but very close together. Concrete pads with picnic tables and full hook ups. You must walk over a sand berm to see the ocean on the oceanside, there are only a few sites on the sound side to see that water. ATT phone service is iffy, until the last day we were here. Wifi is poor, as is cable. No shade anywhere! Thankful for my awning. Nice but small laundry room. If I'm ever this way again, I would stay here because it's better than other campgrounds near here. It's just not a 5 star place.

Stayed on site# 377, bay side waterfront, which provides spectacular views of nightly sunsets. All sites had amply space. Site 377 was great for my 38 ft MH, level concrete pad, FHU, and a deck path behind the site that you could fish off of and stroll to the open bay, Pamlico sound. Only issue, wifi is extremely spotty and basically isn't useful, which they tell you upon check in. Bayside was more layed back than the ocean side, which was very busy. Overall, even though it was pricey, the bayside waterfront site was enjoyable and we plan on returning. Also, all amenities were very maintained such as pool, kids play area, etc.

| Nice but over priced

By user-unknown on 2019-08-09.

The campground was clean and only noisy one night. Pool was large but usually crowded. Dog park was great. Very clean and had cool features. I recommend sound side water front over ocean side as you can t see the water over the dunes anyway and sunset on sound side plus kite boarding give a great show. Hate all the kids driving golf carts and almost witnessed two accidents. Sites larger than KOA but not sure it s worth added cost.
