Reviews for CANDY HILL CAMPGROUND

| Nice but not very big

By user-1510002 on 2017-10-23.

Nice campground but sites are pretty close together. Very friendly and helpful staff. Firewood and fire rings are delivered to your site. Wi-Fi is not free and they charge $4 a day if a guest stops by to visit - even if they don't use any facilities...

Should have gotten the message with the rude woman on the phone when we made the reservation. Same attitude when we checked in. Sardines in a can have more room. Mud holes in front of the site. Dirty showers. Pool wasn't open because it hadn't been inspected yet. Did we get a lower rate? Not a chance.

Nicely maintained property. Great dog run. Really loud freeway noise. We never really felt welcome. They are in the hospitality business, but they have not learned to be hospitable. Had a golf cart follow me to my site every time I drove my car into the park to make sure I was legal in the park. They "caught" my unauthorized daughter at my site visiting with us and charged us $25 for her to sit in our RV and talk. Unpleasant feeling like we were intruding.

| Very Nice Campground

While some disagreed with how this campground is managed, I have nothing but good to say. The enforcement of rules is welcome...made me feel safe and secure. The staff is professional and the campground is meticulously maintained. Yes...it is more expensive than some of the other "not so" local options. Staff escorted to site and assisted with parking even tho I probably could have handled that myself. My Good Sam card had not been updated as I thot it had been...staff let me know and in lieu gave me military rate at same discount...made check in much less stressful. Camp has very nicely stocked store with almost anything an RV'r might find necessary or desirable at reasonable rates. Off leash dog run is nice and much appreciated. Trash receptacles are strategically placed. Campground is just a stop light away from a Super WalMart for those who need to stock up on groceries, beer, or wine (or like me...need to replace a vacuum cleaner...they had several nice cordless stick options on clearance when I was there yesterday). I was in a site away from the freeway so enjoyed a very quiet nite and expecting two more. Laundry room (which I will use) and showers (which I will not) look clean and very well maintained. Hopefully bad reviews are the exception and not the rule. I have had excellent customer service and am enjoying my stay here very much. I have RV'd in 24 states...staying in high end to rustic digs to complete boondocking. This is not 5 star but definitely worth what they charge for the amenities & customer service offered.

For the price they quoted me, I expected Shangrila. I guess the nearby golf course is the attraction (nothing to write home about either)? Not many other parks near this area and that may be a reason they are so expensive. IMO, better to keep on truckin down the road.

Very nice park friendly and helpful staff that guide you to your site. Some sites a little tight but we are 45 ft plus tow a Tahoe and it wasn't necessary to unhook . Never smelled the stockyard and been here three nights. We will stay here again I'm sure.

| We are very happy after a long day!

This is perfect for a one or two night stay! The prices are great if your coming from the NE! Other wise, perhaps high. Great staff! Swimming pool and arcade for young at heart. Clean and close to Winchester .we will mark this as a favorite and stay here again, when traveling. Pizza and Calzone, delivered to our site. Perfect! Some of other reviews just might expect too much, but then some of the comments are valid. We are not inclined to knock things an owner has no control over. These owners seem to give it their "all"!

The basics make it worth higher stars as it is a very nice place, but the high price and lack of cable even though advertised makes me drop a star or two. Excellent 50 amp, FHU, pull-thru site on concrete pad with patio. Had grill and patio furniture. On the end so no neighbors on one side and a small yard. Some shade. There are a lot of shaded sites. Noise from the road couldn't be heard inside (we don't sit outside). Some sites are closer to the road with louder noise. Easy, friendly check-in with escort to site. We couldn't get cable at our site. There's a sign in the office that says they don't guarantee cable reception at every site. When you advertise cable, I expect cable. We were able to get some OTA channels. WiFi is Tengointernet. When signing up it says the free basic is slower than the upgraded, so I opted to pay $3.95 for 24 hrs, as I hate slow internet. It worked okay for the most part. When my time ran out, I tried the free basic which worked faster and better than the upgraded I paid for. Go figure. We would stay here again making sure we get a cable site.

We chose this park for dog run. Was quoted price for one night stay but then was charged other fees. Nice area but to close to highway and was loud.

Great park would come back, a little pricey and had road noise but really nice

| Nice grounds

By user-5810898... on 2017-10-23.

This campground has very picturesque grounds however it is near a cattle auction barn and if the wind blows in the right direction you will know it. Restrooms are cramped but OK. Price is too much for a night's stay. Easy access from I81. Winchester is a very nice town with great eating places downtown.

Too expensive. Tight, cattle auction smell with right wind and close to noisy highway. Staff was helpful, friendly. Clean restrooms. Clean campground.

| Too Close for Comfort

By user-5280232... on 2017-10-23. Stayed 2015-05-29 to 2015-05-30

This campground is overpriced, and way to close to a very very busy highway 50. Cars, trucks, and sirens all night long. Campers must purchase wood for fires from the camp store, then a fire ring is delivered to the camp site. The highway was so loud that we were forced inside to watch TV. Cable TV at our site consisted of 6 channels, 4 shopping channels, and 2 ION channels. We stayed one night and left. Do yourself a favor and just keep going.

We stayed here on the way to Fla and on the way back. Because of the different dates..guess one was off season and one was peak season..difference of 7.00 with Good Sams Discount. Right next to I81..the windows were closed so didn't really hear any road noise. We had a pull thru site..with paved site..Did NOT have to unhook our 5er and we were perfectly level. Cable was ok..lower channels were fuzzy. Internet was decent. Easy to find..had someone escort us to our site. Dog park was good..although my dogs would rather WALK around the camp then in a fenced in area. The office looked like it has some various groceries..although I didn't need any..Didn't used the bath house/laundry and to cold for the pool. I would/and have stayed again.

Park is very clean and well maintained. The staff are pleasant and helpful. There is a very nice pool, playground and dog park for our four legged children. There is a lot of road noise because the park is right next to highway 50. Some of the sites are close but level. Would stay here again.

E and staff seemed nice except C. C is awful. Called ahead. I use a wheelchair and my aide was helping me check site/facility accessibility before booking. Drove up in a nice SUV. Aide ran into main office to ask if we could look by car. We drove 30 feet in the park when C came up in golf cart to chase us off. Told us we couldn t drive had to walk and that he d just sold out. Wheelchair explanation did not change his mind about have to be on foot . He yelled at another staff member present who was trying to be helpful to us. We went back to office to check sold out (seemed like a lie, vacant spots everywhere). It was a lie. There C tried to get rid of me. Wouldn t answer questions. Told me there is nothing to see here [in the park] . Asked rude personal questions beyond the reasonable (how many adults, kids, vehicle year) : is your aide your boyfriend . What??!!?? Left immediately, disgusted. Super convenient spot but would never give these people a dime. They charge $5 per visitor so they re watching the place like hawks. That might work in somebody s favor re safety, but I considered reporting them for ADA violations.

Very nice campground and unlike some other on line camments the lady at check in was very nice. They have one of the best stocked store for RV items and at competitive prices (if not better) with Camping World! We had their premium pull thru site. We stayed in a 45' Class A towing F-150 and did not have to disconnect.

After trying to put my rig in at another camp ground near here in the rain, with no luck, I called late The phone was answered, they waited a half hour after closing for me, and guided me in with a host on s nice level paved pull through.

Clean large sites, but mostly back in, not pull through. Great pool, ok laundry. Walmart is .5 miles.

| Friendly family run campground

By user-6156435... on 2019-08-09.

My family stayed for a month here. Great family run campground. Pet friendly. Always clean everywhere. Welcoming, kind employees and campers. Trolley ride to Dairy Queen when they have it running is a lot of fun (would be more fun if the music was older or geared toward the people riding, but the DJ is the owner's kids. but it didn't bother me-I only overheard from the rest of the trolley as we were the only young ones on board)! Affordable, spacious laundry room. They are strict about their rules, but they go over them before you pay so you should know what is expected of you. They could also upgrade or fix the arcade. We would have spent more if most weren't broken down. Overall, our stay was amazing and we were sad to leave. I hope to come back soon.
