This is an excellent forest campground. The sites are quite large and spaced so that you can barely see you neighbor. The campground host is eager to answer questions and help newcomers find a site. He also makes sure the fire pits and sites are free of trash. Water is hand-pumped and there is no dump station, but that is pretty typical of parks in Alaska. It’s also a short walk to the fish viewing area where you can watch the salmon run late July and early August. Our rate was $9.00 per night. We had a Golden Age pass. Without the discount, the price is $18.00 per night.
Third time staying here. Glacier views from some sites. Sites are large and we'll spaced. This stay there were heavy trucks on highway all nite. Stayed in 32ft Class C. We would stay here again.
What a gem of a place. About half the sites are not reservable so you if you get there early there is probably a spot. Most of the sites are huge. Lots of trees, just a beautiful place to stay. Convenient to Portage Glacier boat tour and to Whittier. Very quiet. We stayed in site 50, a double site and had AT&T connectivity. Verizon had no service. We would defiantly stay here again. But next time for a longer stay.
