Lots to do

You could spend all your time at the ranch and have plenty to do, or you can go to several close towns and occupy your time that way. Make plans way in advance because the sites are always full. We camped there in a travel trailer. We will return again. I only gave it 4 stars because there are no sewer sites.

We have been here twice and still haven't done all there is to do here. We visited Indian Cliff Dwellings and got to see more of the park on this trip. The weather is nice during this time of year. We camped in a fifth wheel this time. Who knows, perhaps next time it'll be in a big rig.

Our "Go-To" Park In This Area

This is a great State Park with a wide variety of sites.
Many are shaded with limited views, others are great views with limited shade. Quiet and open park.

Beautiful views, large level sites, fishing ponds. No sewer but two convenient dump stations. Clean bathrooms. No tv but who cares, better without. All rangers and hosts were very friendly and helpful.
We would stay here again.

Fantastic State Park

This has to be one of our favorites. Nestled along the Verde River and only a stone s throw to old town Cottonwood gives a quiet and remote feel while still being close to town amenities. The park is immaculate. We stayed in Quail Loop closer to the river with more trees; the other two loops are higher up with long range views but fewer trees. All offers access to trails, while Quail is closer to trails along the river and to the three lagoons. Great place for riding bikes or hiking. Campgrounds were all paved, with well-spaced sites with trees for privacy. All are very level, asphalt surface, and good W/E hook. Bathhouses older but very clean, and nicely maintained. Two lane dump station oriented for inbound/outbound traffic. Dump station is clean has trash can available and easy in and out. Campsite reservation covers the $7 day-use fee. Excellent Verizon reception. Overall beautiful CG, and camp hosts were great.

I can do no better than the review below entitled "Fantastic State Park." We enjoyed the place so much we stayed there even though we needed to move twice in a week--but that got us the weekend. Front office staff very helpful, campground hosts terrific. Enjoyed it all.

Wow, what a gem of a park! We stayed in #89 with our 30 foot 2018 Grand Design Imagine 2600RB and LOVED it! VERY large, paved, smooth, quiet and private sites (guessing 75 feet)! Could be more level, which is why we carry multiple sets of blocks, but we'vehad MUCH worse. Full view of Jerome on the hill, trails right outside the door and 360 degree views of the relatively dark night sky. Easy walk to VERY clean restrooms that we used often to not fill our black tank too quickly. Only 25 minutes and 4 traffic lights to Sedona. Helicopter tours flying by from Cottonwood. WELL WORTH the $32/day we paid (we think). All staff and neighbors were extremely friendly. No barking dogs either! (barking dogs=bad owners, no training, no discipline and ignorance of it all). Dump station was good but only has a water connection on 1 side (passenger as exiting) so we couldn't connect the tank flush (2 others waiting). HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

We stayed in Quail Loop. The site is surrounded by shade trees. Many hiking trails that are easily accessible from the site. The lagoons were awesome in the morning. A pair of bald eagles have a nest in the area and we were lucky enough to see one of them. Picture of nearby Jerome can be seen reflecting off the still waters of the lagoon! I was told the lagoon is stocked with fish during the winter. The site is clean with showers and outdoor dish washing facilities available. There is even a lending library on site. The park also has a kids playground with a small zip line. Definitely a great campsite!

Our site was set at a bit of an akward angle to the one next to it, but besides that, the sites were spacious with georgeous views of the surrounding mountains. Lots to do in the park and in the surrounding area. We loved our time here!!
