I would give this park 3 stars (average), due to having recently stayed at several top-end locations. But I added one star because it is right on a beautiful reservoir, with a dam, and the Willamette river within walking distance. It was full of trout and salmon, and the fishing was great! Easy 15 minute drive to Eugene, and go south 20 minutes for a scenic drive full of covered bridges at Cottage Grove. There is also a covered bridge walking distance from the park, on the Dexter reservoir. Would stay here again, if we are ever in the area. Staff are helpful, amenities are adequate, and the fishing and river/lake access is phenomenal! Warning...there is a train once or twice a day, and some of the residents are permanent, so come 5am, there are a lot of diesel trucks starting up. But this is typical of many RV parks, so not really a complaint against this place. If you come, definitely visit the river below the Dexter Dam, and again on the road out toward Jasper. Exit, go under the bridge to the boat launch area, and let the dogs and kids play in the water, take a float, or throw a line! Also, Dexter Park has a nice farmer market on Sunday, and Tuesday and Saturday is a HUGE farmer market at 5th street in downtown Eugene. We got tons of mushrooms, including morels and chanterelles for about $5 per pound!!! And all the fresh veggies and herbs you could ask for!
I only stayed the night, but very friendly hosts, clean and serviceable campground with great reservoir views. The pavement crowd may not approve, but, hey, you're camping! There are a number of long term tenants, who are also very friendly. I was invited by some to live music around the corner at the roadhouse where Animal Farm was filmed. There's a BBQ place next door, the music was fun, not too loud, cold beer, and a firepit out back. All walkable from the CG. CG sites are level gravel, lots of lawn, voltage is right, water is clean. Will definitely seek this out again.
First the bad -- it is on a very busy highway, so the traffic noise can be bad, there is also a train close by. I also thought that lake access was going to be better, but it was not. I have a kayak and there was no way to carry it across the busy road to the lake easily without walking at least 1/4 mile (too far to carry a 50 lb kayak). The other negative were the bathrooms -- the showers and laundry were only open 9-5. Really? The good -- the grounds were nice and the locals very friendly. It was possibly about 30% full-timers. It is also close to the lake for walking there for fishing. If you do want to use a boat launch, go to Lowell about 2 miles east. Much nicer boat launch facilities.
