FHU in the hills of Escondido, CA. Most RV sites appear to be fairly level. The lake is beautiful with great picnic areas and boat rentals. Not a great set up for checking in/registering; I tell the ranger at the gate that we're checking in for the campground and he just says "ok". We continue down the road and see a sign stating campground check in at the concession stand. We came in on a beautiful Sunday so there was no real place to park the RV while checking in. Hubby had to wait in a spot trying not to block anything. I then went to wait in line at the concession counter where people were ordering food and buying bait for fishing. However, the actual check in process was easy and fairly organized. Great views from pretty much every site either of the lake or the city. We would recommend site 15 if you have a camper or MH. We had site 16 which is right along side the road, so not very private. Roads are very curvy and it's very hilly. Not made for big rigs. Our MH is only 27' and it felt too big for most of the sites. Of course there's no cable or wifi but we had no trouble getting several channels with the antenna and our cell service was good.
Nice park, but better for tent camping in my opinion. We booked site 14 at the end of a road for our 35 class A. Website said space was 41x18 with hookups and showed a picnic table and fire pit. Table and ring were down several steps from the street, where the hookups were located. As there was no obvious designated spot for the RV, we had to just park in the road, across the cul-de-sac, which somewhat encroached on the entrance of an adjacent camp site. Fortunately, our neighbors were friendly and we shared the space amicably. The park has beautiful old pine trees and is well kept. The tent sites we saw were secluded and had nice views of the lake, or overlooking the city. There are only about 10 hookup sites, most of which would accommodate shorter rigs, many with sloped approaches or situated so that you had to park along the road. We didn t fish, but our neighbors tried and failed to catch anything. It was a peaceful two days and we would go again. We went to the San Diego Safari Park while we were there. It s about a 20 minute drive.
