Great family camping

Canopy of Oak trees

Dos Picos isn't a full service RV park, it's a beautiful, oak tree covered county park with water and 30 amp hook ups. There is a dump station that is convenient. There is a nice facility with hot showers and flush toilets. A family shower is available. Hiking trails are everywhere and a playground for the young ones. We have loved Dos Picos for many years. Rangers are always on duty and they do a good job of keeping the campground civil.
The cons: This is a natural setting so there are ants and insects. Not so many as to ruin the trip but they are there. The other thing, WATCH your RV height as you navigate the roads here. Some of these oaks will "contact" your RV roof if you aren't careful! It is fine for the largest RVs but be careful!!

Quiet place

Arrived on Memorial Day. Only 10 other spaces were occupied. Very clean after the weekend.
Downside: narrow access roads for new rv drivers.
Red ant nest at just about every space, just know where they are, and avoid them.
VERY few spots with decent shade, as a fire took some out a few years ago.

We booked a space for 29$ for our minivan. We imediately got a confirmation email we knew where we had to go. The ranger at the office was also very nice. The restrooms were clean and for the showers we had to pay. All in all it was a very nice stay and we felt very safe.

Nice Campground

Somehow there was only 2 spots left and we ended up with the best spot. By ourselves could not see any other campers. Some of the camping spots are close together and a lot of tents but by far it was peaceful and restful. They have partial hookups water and 30amp + 50amp the electrical boxes look pretty new. Lots of shade there are some with no shade. Cost was $29 a night plus $5 for the reservation. Hiking trails within the park a pond where you can fish but it's a catch and release. Potato Chip Rock is only 6 miles away. The hike is 2 miles uphill but worth it. If you want your picture on the rock it is like a Disneyland wait. We will be back. For a park that is full for Labor Day there was a lot of no shows. Hate to say it but they should cancel so others who want to camp can.

Busy on the weekend, quiet otherwise

We stayed 4 nights, including a weekend. We were in site 74 which was advertised as being 35 feet and it was, but it wasn't level front to back and we had to drive to the top of our leveling ramps. There isn't much privacy in the campground. The cell signal for AT&T was pretty good on the top of the hill where our site was. Signal was spotty on the lower part. Bathrooms were clean enough. Pay showers (didn't use). During the weekend, the place was covered up with little kids on bikes. There is a nice trail and a big playground that our children liked. We drove a quick 45 minutes to the San Diego Zoo. We would stay there again.

Nice campground. Showers, water, fire pits. Lovely park rangers. Camping spaces pretty tightly packed next to each other. Lots of kids on Friday night, they were pretty noisy. $24 per night for our campervan.

Nice Local County Campground

My wife and I stayed for three nights last week. There are dozens of RV sites with water and 30 amp electric hookups. A dump station is in the campground adjacent to the shower area. Most campsites have good separation and are shaded by oak trees but a few are very close together and not shaded so choose your site carefully. The campground is clean well maintained by San Diego County staff. Coin operated warm showers are a great amenity but are a bit dated (50 cents for 4 mins. and 25 cents for each add'l 2 mins.). There is a 1 mi. hiking trail, and a day use area about 1/2 mile from the campground that has pond for fishing, play equipment for the kids (well away from the camping area), and seemingly thousands of picnic tables. There are several hikes within easy driving distance and the budding Ramona Valley Wine area with dozens of wineries is closeby (most are open only on the weekends)
