Reviews for Dungeness Recreation Area Campground

| Better deal than the state parks

I was pleased with the price, the distance to the beach, the privacy of the campsites, and the overall cleanliness. Much better deal than shay I'm finding at WA state parks.

This is a (Clallam) County campground, created from property once owner by the federal government for use by the Voice of America project. It still shares boundary lines with the federally - operated Dungeness Spit wildlife preserve to the northwest, location of the Dungeness lighthouse. Folks heading to the Spit must pass thru the county park to reach access to parking and the trail to the spit and beach. This adds some traffic to the single narrow road, especially on spring/summer weekends. Camp facilities are basic, with no water, sewer, or electrical hookups at the sites. Sites are level and paved or gravelled, and tend to be tight for larger RVs. Many sites offer good screening between neighbors, while others without low brush feel open under the trees. Small playground for younger children, but little else. Walk down to the water starts easily enough, but may be long and tiring for small children and older folk. Often restroom facilities at bottom of trail are out of commission, so "go" before you go. Popular area for horse riders, so be sure you're on a "people" trail. Trip to the lighthouse is longer than it looks on open beach, offering no cover. Allow plenty of time, watch the weather... especially the sun. Other than walking the couple of trails, not much for activities. Great for one or two, but kids will probably get restless soon. Short stays tend to be the norm here. Still a clean, well maintained park, open year round, with fairly low rates.

Was not impressed, enjoyed Salt Creek Park but not Dungeness. Be sure to take lots a OFF.

| Great spot

We stayed here with a group and had a great time. The campsites were good without any hookups. I had an unshaded spot so I was able to use a solar panel to keep the battery topped up. Some good hiking areas and close to a beach area.
