| Beautiful

One of the nicest campgrounds you could imagine. Great beaches. One section allows pets. Each site is fairly private and shaded. Some face the water.

Nice, shaded sites, great amenities, well maintained. While there is no sewer hookups, there is an on site dump station. Very difficult to get a reservation. Plan waaaaay ahead.

| Our Favorite Place So Far!

We have traveled 9400 miles on our trip across the country, and this is the best campground so far! We felt like we were in a tropical paradise. The spacious sites were nestled in-between thick shrubs and palms providing privacy. Some of the sites are difficult to back into, but once you are in, you are surrounded by nature. We watched a wide variety of birds feeding in the bayou at the edge of our site. There are paved bike trails throughout the park. We especially liked the North Beach area with its white sand beaches and views of ships entering Tampa Bay. We almost had it to ourselves in early January. Be sure to bring enough provisions since the grocery stores are about 5 miles away. This is truly a sanctuary for birds, wildlife, and humans!

Very pretty park,all but one ranger is very nice,it's a county park not state that explains the price but it is paradise. Don't dump on rainy days,you will be standing in water.all in all a great place to stay

Park is clean, each site has privacy, nice level spots. We have a site on the water. Easy to launch kayak. Rangers are very helpful and nice. Volunteers take pride in keeping park cleaned up. Camp store which has free wifi. You can set on the deck at back of store, surf the web, eat ice cream and watch the fish. Beaches are a short drive. They even have a dog beach. Two fishing piers, you do not need a fishing license to fish from the piers. You won't want to leave.
| Not great for a big rig

Overall, I thought Fort De Soto Campground was pretty cool, but I have a few complaints. First of all, we reserved a "water front" campsite. Technically our site backed up to the water, but there was a row of hedges that were about 7 feet tall that basically blocked the entire view of the water, so it was worthless. Secondly, I was there in a 45' big rig, and I would say this park is not really designed for a unit that size (although I called in advance and was told it would be fine). I didn't see any others that large, so if you have a big rig, go with caution. The roads and the sites are very tight for a large unit. My cousin was in the site next to us, and he had to go to a hardware store to buy a tool to trim some branches so he'd have enough room to put his slides out. Other than that, the restroom and shower facilities were clean enough, and the overall state park was pretty nice. We enjoyed our stay there, but I probably wouldn't go back in a big rig.

Lucked out and got in from a cancellation as we were visiting near Tampa. Outstanding site with a little beach. Would give 5 stars if wifi was available.

Stayed in a 27 foot travel trailer. Park rangers were wonderful. Don't count on doing laundry. Two machines were out. The bathrooms were clean and the spots were very private. What a wonderful thing to wake up and comb the beach for shells.

This is one of the nicest park we've camped in! Clean, reasonable, friendly, great scenery. Nice beaches, fishing piers. We had a great time!

Beautiful beaches, large flat treed lots. Nice bath houses. No sites with sewer, there are two dump stations. Small camp store.

This is one of the best in the country, and the word is already out — worldwide. Plan long in advance to stay here. You may have a site on the water, or just a short walk away, surrounded by palm and pine trees. Beautiful bicycle ride to your choice of beaches that go on for miles. Separate park area for dogs and their owners which means plenty of birds in the other areas. Electrical and water hook ups with a couple dump stations. Canoe and kayak rentals. Perfectly maintained restrooms. Can we just live there? No, only two weeks at a time.

This was our first stay here. The place stays full so it is hard to get reservations. Great location for the beaches. It is extremely tight for motor homes because of tees. Especially ours at 43 feet. They also don't have sewer on your sight. So you either have to move through the trees to the dump site or use the bath houses. Not sure why they would have 50 amp service and water on site but no sewer. Go figure. It's also expensive at $40 per night for what you get.

We have been traveling for over six months and this might be the best park so far. Its location, at the northern tip of Tampa Bay means it is quiet, and secluded. Large wooded lots with plenty of Green separating sites helps you to enjoy nature. Wild life all around and beachs just 2 miles away are easy to get too. Level sites with water and lower. They do make reservations and you will probably need them for this very poplar park, though we didn't have them and had 5 sites to choose from. $40 including tax but what a park.
| Closest RV location to beaches BUT BEWARE

Big rigs (40ft +) pay special attention to the tree over hangs along the drive around the campground and even more so parking!! If your rig is over 12ft high expect a new pin strip along the sides of your RV. If only the STATE would trim back the sites and roads inside the park this would be outstanding destination.

This place is amazing, the beaches are beautiful and the campsites are well maintained. The campsites are decently leveled, groomed with beautiful views. Issues: 1. Every time you enter the park you get hit with a toll between $0.50-$1.25. 2. The beaches are beautiful but they recently cut down a lot of trees, real shame.

We stayed 2 nights and wish we would of stayed longer! Great campsites, each campsite is pretty private with tress and palm trees surrounding sides. Water and electric hookup only so using campground bathroom is a good idea if you are staying for a while. Bathrooms are clean. There is one washer and dryer at each bathhouse. Playgrounds are nice. Grounds are well kept and everyone is super friendly. Beach is nice about 2 miles away. Shopping is about 4 miles away. Great place will come again

If you have a pet be sure to tell them before you book. They DO NOT ask you when booking so you may end up having to leave the park if they have booked you a non pet area. Big disappointment if you are unaware of this! For this reason I tried to remove all stars but site would not let me.

| No wifi

Nice grounds with plenty of clean bath houses. Water front is brackish water...good for boating or fishing. Need to either bike or drive to the sandy beaches. Wifi is available around the camp store but dogs aren't allowed near by. Nice campground section for dogs only. Need to drive to beach that allows dogs. Signs all over prohibiting alcohol. Campground OK but need to drive further to beaches or wifi. If you need supplies or want to go out to eat, need to pay tolls to re-enter. Recommend couple of wifi spots close to bath houses with picnic tables especially one in dog area Fort Desoto Park is great with plenty of things to do along with dog park & dog beach. Need bikes to get around park if you don't want to drive RV or second car.
