This is the nicest State Park in Michigan that we have visited. Located on pristine Lake Fanny Hooe and a short walk to Lake Superior. Many good size sites with trees and plantings between. All types of sites from tent-friendly to big-rig pull-through. (No full hookup, but hey, it's camping, right?). Very friendly park rangers and campground hosts. Adjacent to extensive mountain bike / hiking trail system. Lots of wildlife in the area. Love this park!
What a wonderful campground. We were in the west campground. 50 pull through with nice paved spot. No water or sewer. Our spot was roomy, quite and private. It was also well shaded. The east campground seemed more open, less shade, gravel small spaces but better wifi. All interior roads are paved and it is very easy to get to. Restrooms and showers clean but dated. Wifi was only good at restrooms. Verizon coverage was weird. There were spots that worked. A cell booster would hook you up but unfortunately our power suppl failed. We did get some coverage in our spot The campgrounds were immaculate. The hosts had coffe made each morning and were very helpful with things to do and see on the Keweenaw Peninsula. You can walk to town, about 1/2 mile and you can walk to the Copper Harbor Lighthouse overlook. There are nice trails along the lake and the Fort is worth the time to walk around. We also drove over to check out the competition at Fanny Hoe. Hands down stay in the State Park.
Our family loves going to historical forts. We had a great time at the fort. The campground was also nice. They have a few spots that are black topped and the rest are grass. Bath houses are nice. Lots of mountain biking trails and local attractions other then the fort to see.
