Reviews for Fort Yargo State Park

| What a jip

Me and my brother in law stopped in to go walk the park to stretch our legs after a long ride on our motorcycles. They charged us the same as two cars for parking even though we were going to share one space. So we took two spaces. It is not a motorcycle friendly park, only have one star because it wouldn't let me give none. If you want a peaceful walk don't bother, signs say that bicycle riders are supposed to give right of way to walking traffic on the trails, but the trails were like trying to walk on the interstate with all the bicyclists zooming by. All they would do is tell walker move.

We loved this park. Quiet, well cared for. Sites were level, clean packed sand and gravel and well laid out. **** The staff & camphosts were fantastic **** It can be hard to get reservations and they are not site specific. Campgrounds are on the backside of the lake. We had some late night noise from city of Winder (sirens etc) but it was very peaceful. Dump station in campground #2 was clean and easy to access. We were able to get major TV networks on antenna and cell/MiFi coverage was solid. Bathroom & showers was clean and well maintained! Be sure to ask for Senior discount and note the parkling passes are not included in camping. We were in a 28 ft travel trailer. We will go back again when we can get reservations.

| Beautiful well maintained Park..Rude office staff

We stayed for three nights in our motor home. The entire park is beautiful and well maintained. Our campsite was graveled and level. The campground host was pleasant and our encounters with him were pleasant. This park was getting a five star rating until our encounter trying to check in. We had a reservation and when we got here the campground was pretty much empty. However we were informed that not only could we not pick our site and park (sites are on a first come first serve basis) but we would also have to wait to do the paperwork for checkin. They were consistent as they did not allow anyone else the opportunity to check in either. Promptly at 1:00 two of the office staff left for lunch leaving one attendant to deal with the crowd of people that had been told to wait until 1:00 to check in. Being a native Georgian myself it makes me very sad that these people are the ambassadors for our state for travelers. We will probably stay here again because the rest of our experience was wonderful here. However I can't help but hope that the office staff is reminded that the reason they have a job is to serve the customers. My only interaction with an actual park ranger was pleasant. This was the worst experience with office staff that I have ever seen in a Georgia State Park and I have been to most of them. Only check in that was as difficult was a late check in with volunteer that couldn't keep things straight because she was suffering from early stage Alzheimers and bless her heart. She was pleasant and trying to be helpful and gracious even though she wasn't up to the task.

Nice shady level pea gravel sites with water and elec, dump station(no sewer). Ok for 40' rig for a nite or 2. Great authentic southern food at The Magnolia House in nearby Winder. Campground host will deliver firewood to your site...yea!

For those wanting a wonderful camping experience, a feeling of being much farther away from the congestion of metro than you actually are, Ft Yargo is the place to be. Great hacking and mountain cycling 12 months of the year.

Beautiful State Park. Biking and hiking trails for all levels. Stayed an extra night because it was so peaceful.

Good sized shades lots. New bath house. Disapointed in the campground. No sewer, dump station only. Trash dumpster running over on Saturday morning angel really bad by Sunday afternoon. Poison ivy is every where. Of the 4 sites that friends and I stayed in we had electrical problems in 3 of them (bad breakers, worn out plugs, low voltage with nuicense tripping). Dirty bath house and not regularly cleaned. Tried put put mini golf. Not maintained with high grass needing to be cut. With pea gravel and trash on course surfaces. We were very disappointed and will not try here again.
