Reviews for Frenchman's Wilderness Campground

| Wide open spaces

Very nice place with friendly, helpful staff. It's really quiet here, and it looks like there are more than a few permanent trailers here. Ask for an even-numbered spot in the back row - between spots 70 and 110. There's a lot of space between sites, so you won't hear your neighbors' conversations. The back row has plenty of open space for walking your dog, too. I will definitely come back to this RV Park.

This is a pretty empty stretch of I-10 to find a decent, no frills stop for the night. We were westbound hoping to go a little past Lafayette but ended up just needed something closer. Enter this campground. It was pretty crowded and seems to offer a few of the "resort" campground amenities. We were only interested in a place to camp overnight. The staff seemed to have their act together up to marshaling you in when you arrived. They also escorted you to your campsite, and annoyingly told me exactly how to park down to which direction to turn my steering wheel. I believe they were trying to help, but it was annoying nonetheless. The sites are all back in and ours was perfectly level, and we had to detach our 33' TT in order for our hoses to fit the hookups which is a minor concern for us but worth noting. They are a Good Sam's campground and only accept Cash, Debit Card and Checks. No credit cards. All things considered, not a bad campground.

| Has potential, choose site carefully

I stayed for one nite so my experience is limited. Good hookups, nice level site, pretty grounds with a lot of potential for sportsmen. I was only there for one night hoping to get a good nights sleep. Unfortunately they put me in the front near the road and the main buildings. Do NOT accept those locations unless you are a deep sleeper. Between the traffic noise, lawn mowers, tractors, and other noise, I did not get much sleep.

We were a little hesitant to try this park because of the reviews. But we stayed for 3 nights and were happy with the park. It was busy labor day weekend but everyone was friendly and the camping was an excellent vlaue. Park was quiet when it was to be, pool was nice, and sites were level. One review was correct with the road and front sites but traffic was not that bad. The guys directed me to our site and they were helpful with backing in. Never once did they tell me which way to turn the steering wheel, or any issues dealing with backing up. Maybe those others did not know how to back up. Some can only go forward. All in all very happy with park and would stay again. Thank you staff.

We camped at this time and even with the bad weather we had a nice weekend short of the campers who came in after dsrk and were loud and obnoxious while being parked by very capable staff. We enjoy being escorted to our site and helped to back into it and have found ALL the staff at Frenchman's to be helpful and knowledgable. This is one of the safest campgrounds for children we have found due to rules and the full time campers watching out for the children and their safety. We don't feel there is a need to lock our camper due to the security provided. We paid for a week which covers 6 nights with one free night and then the extra 2 nights. So if the person giving the bad review had a bad experience then it was due to lack of respect for others and others property as I now believe they are the ones who were loud etc and woke up my children with their noise. I recommend Frenchmans Wilderness to all my friends and family and we have all enjoyed it and find it a pleasant experience for the needs of our family.

Nice park with good amenities. $30 a night for 30 amp full hookups. Only negative but very well kept is the tiny bathrooms. Spots are gravel and fairly level, easy to back in as well.

By user-5869529... on 2018-03-14.

Camping here was a pleasure as it is clean and well kept. The bathrooms are very clean. The sites are spacious and proved FHU with WI-FI available. One of the perks is they can fill your propane tanks for you. The staff was friendly and helpful from registration to being escorted to our site with help to back in. We will definitely be back

We made reservations for the beginning of January 2018, planning on staying a month. Right away we decided to stay another month. This campground and the way it is operated is the BEST! The bath/shower house and laundry facilities were very clean, never did we see any trash on the ground. We loved the fact that it had many trees, (not like some CG that are nothing but concrete) it is nature at its best! The staff and owners were some of the nicest ppl we have ever met! They were all so helpful and just plain great, We are missing each and every one of them! We will be back!

| Great overnight

Beautifully maintained campground with lots of trees and spacious sites. We had pull-through with plenty of room to leave toad hooked up. Hookups are convenient and set in concrete pads. No less than 4 people were out the next morning mowing the grass. Trash is picked up at the campsites. Easy access to freeway, but no noise. In a beautiful area. Would definitely stay again.

| Nice Park

By user-5660353... on 2019-08-09.

Very easy to get to just off I-10. A lot of long term residents, but nothing "trashy" about this park. Well taken care of and nicely laid out. Friendly people. No problem recommending this park for at least an overnighter. Paid $35 (GS rate) for 50 amp, level back-in site.

| Quiet full hook-up

By user-6045935... on 2019-08-09. Stayed 2018-09-15 to 2018-09-16

Shortly after we had arrived, heavy rains and thunderstorm started. As they continued until morning, we didn't leave the RV, so we cannot say a lot about the facilities. But the park looked nice, clean, had a pool, was safe, and quiet. We had a full hook-up site, concrete was a bit uneven, next to the street. No trees or bushes to cover.

Tortuga Grande - Bounder 35K - pulling tow dolly - This is a very nice place. Lots of spaces and we had a pull-through. We did not disconnect our tow dolly. The ladies at the office where very friendly and helpful. The gentleman in charge of helping campers settle in was also extremely helpful. He assisted us in pulling in and settling in. We had an opportunity to dump both tanks. I did not take on water since we had enough water. The night was quiet and we slept like bears in hibernation. Had a restful evening and in the morning used their showers and facilities. Both my wife and I are very happy with the stay. Just a good all nice campground. Hope to see you on our travels. Come over and say hello. Tortuga Grande - Bounder 35K

Stopped in here on our way through town. Easy spot off I-10. Low highway noise drowned out by nature. staff was super friendly and helpful. Only takes cash or check. Maybe because the office was closed when we arrived, or maybe because i didn t read close enough.

Stopped in for a quick one night stay on our way through. Nice camp ground right off the Interstate. It nestled back in the edge of the woods so you would never know It's that close to the main road.staff was very friendly.

Nice and quiet. Very clean. No cable or antenna TV. Didn t try my Verizon wifi. I would stay there again if in the area. We stayed in a 40ft 5th wheel. Plenty of room for it in the park.

We were on our way to Houston and just couldn t drive anymore. Found the park online and pulled in. There were signs on the road to the park that said the bridge was closed ahead, we were a little nervous because it s not a large road and since it was late we couldn t see many places where we could turn around, but luckily the park was before the bridge. We called in for a late check in and the staff was super accommodating and got us in a pull-thru. We left early in the morning so we didn t really take advantage of the amenities. They did lock the bathrooms to prevent vandalism and there was a phone number posted to get the code to open the door, but that wasn t hard, and I m sure we would have gotten the code when we checked in, if it hadn t been so late. Also it is in the middle of the swamp, mosquitoes are gonna do their mosquito thing. There was a truck that drove through fogging for them, and since I had 4 bites while we were plugging in, I really appreciated it.
