Fantastic Park

The owner, Tom, is very kind, helpful, and appreciative. The setting is great. The local activities and outdoor options are many, especially if you're active. The New River and its trails and river activities are walking distance away. Bikes are available to use on the trail that follows the river. It's a beautiful ride. The park is off the beaten path and worth every minute of effort to get there. I would return again. In a 41ft MH.
PS - recommend you approach from Galax, VA if you're in a big rig and towing a car. Call Tom for directions.

Well be back!

Great little 16 spot campground. Fairly easy to get to. Excellent location right across the street front the New River Trail which is fantastic for bikes, running, walking, and even horses. Walking distance to downtown Fries Va. Only 10 minute drive to downtown Galax. Campsites are a nice size with good privacy and pretty views. Campgrounds and bathrooms are absolutely spotless.

Our first site, great first camping impression
By user-5783755... on 2017-10-23.
We stayed here in our first night in our camper. Beautiful site along the creek with full woods on other side. Walkable downtown. Bathroom is easily ada accessible and nicer than our bathroom at home.

Absolutely wonderful
By user-5771076... on 2017-10-23.
This place definitely lives up to its reviews. The sites are spacious and level. The owner is welcoming and helpful. The New River Trail across the street is perfect for walking or bike riding. If you are looking for peace and quiet in a beautiful setting this place is it. We will definitely be back. We stayed here in a 30' motor home.

Great place to relax!

Fries (“freeze) is a tiny town on the New River. The roads to get to the RV park are a bit narrow but we made it fine with a 45MH and toad. This park is small, and as others have said, beautifully landscaped. There is a stream that runs through the park, and most sites are on the stream. Some sites have decks and others have terracing. All have a swing or a swing nearby. The sites are dark gravel but it is large enough that it isn’t attracted to the bottom of your feet. The layout of the park is quite unusual which actually affords more privacy. Some sites are nose to tail and others have more separation. Except for a buddy site, none of the sites are right next to each other. Good job! The park is a bit off the beaten track and, as expected, Verizon coverage is low with 1x and occasionally 3g 1bar. We were able to get texts and minimal phone coverage using our extender. There is a US Cellular tower in Fries so I assume that would work fine. Luckily, the WII FI works great. It slows down periodically and will kick you off after a long while but for the most part we had no problems. Directv satellite worked fine in our location. The water pressure is low at 20-25 PSI. For the most part, it is very quiet except for the occasional dog’s bark or shooting of firearms (yep, guess that’s normal in these here parts). The owners are wonderful – even sharing fresh homemade muffins when you arrive (and they were delicious!). As for payment, they take credit cards for the deposit and cash or check for the balance. The New River bike trail is just across Main street. It is a fairly flat trail that follows the New River. The trail itself is fine gravel, and there is some shade. It was great to have a nice trail so close by. We really enjoyed our time here. It’s one of those places to “chillax” sitting outside listening to the creek. Our lounge chairs got plenty of use!

Owner Tom met us at the entrance and guided our RV to our camping spot! Well spaced level sites made setting up easy for this RV novice! Tom gave us a hand drawn map and recommended places for us to see while we were there and also recommended a scenic route when we were getting ready to leave! Would definitely love to stay there again!

This is a beautifully landscaped park that sits in the tiny village of Fries, next to the New River and it's rec path. Owner Tom was very flexible with us when we couldn't make our original reserved dates and let us move them back about a week. He was friendly and helpful while the rest rooms and grounds were very clean and well tended. Our site was level and it looked like the others were as well.

This little RV park is immaculate. The sites are level. We had a beautiful view of the creek that flows through the property. We walked over to the New River Trail State Park. The owner is very nice and helpful. We will be back.

Got in 2 hours later than planned - was after dark. Tom met us at the park and helped these first time RVers get hooked up and ready for the night. Next morning woke up to a beautiful campsite along a creek. Couldn t have been a better experience. Showers are clean and grounds are well maintained. Would absolutely stay here again. What a gem!
