For hiking and day use Gaviota is amazing. Beautiful views from amateur to ambitious trails. Just a few things to keep in mind though. It gets windy here, not just a little ocean breeze kind of windy. Its wake up in the morning and all the tents are gone and people are sleeping in their cars kind of windy. No dogs on the beach. Which is a bummer. And one last warning... these waters are home to great white sharks. Many great white sightings here and there have been several fatal attacks just a little north of here at Surf Beach. So swim and surf her at your own risk.
This camp ground is closed to camping but open for day use. There is no notice at the entrance off of the 101 but there is a notice at the check in booth.
A beautiful backdrop but the place was very well worn, windy, dusty, lots of noise, generators, dogs not on their leash, and needs a lot of repair. The store never open the entire time I was there.
