| A pleasant surprise

By user-6000032... on 2017-10-23.

My First Impression was not true to this unique campsite! We had a wonderful time the two night we spent here. I felt like we left with a deeper understanding of the Hiawatha area and heritage. Nothing "commercial" about this place. Purely authentic! The owner met us outside the office while he was tinkering with something. Turns out he built every building here himself. He hand carved historic pictures and people into several boulders. It's a constant work in progress. The lodge has two pool tables, a library, coffee and cookies between 9-11 am. There is a movie theater building. Movies by request every night. The bathrooms are clean. Eccentric decor. Very quiet at night. Tons of full hook ups. After 2 days and 2 nights We felt like we knew the owner and the camp host better than our neighbors at home! We were going to stay at the Munising Tourist place but she was flustered about something there and could only give us one night. I'll have to call and thank her :) Rates 4/5 facilities: 5/5 experience

| Worst campground we've been at!

I don't know what to say about this place. We called and asked what the rate was. Never got an answer. We were met at the Ranger Station by the owner. He wanted to know how we were going to pay. My husband said credit card and he took the card, ran it through and said sign here. It cost $45 for a gravel site that was tight between trees and brush. The shelter over our picnic table was falling apart. The whole place needs maintenance. Then the power went out! That meant no water or electricity. The first bit of water was all iron and started to color the toilet! We are so disappointed! The temperature hit 92 and no a/c without power!!! Not coming back here ever!!

| Stay far away from this dump!

We made our reservations in early Spring in anticipation of a first time visit to the area. Ranger Jeff (as he calls himself) took full payment at the time for a 50 Amp, full hookup preassigned site. On arrival he told us our site was not available as the occupants decided to extend and assigned us to another site. We were not pleased but there was a no refund policy so we accepted the alternative. The place is overgrown and a junk yard for Jeff's projects. There is no cable as advertised, WiFi is non existent and most of the buildings are kept locked. After we left we noticed a huge charge on our credit card which he advised was for electric!!!! Some visitors have stated they were charged for electric and water. Stay away from this place. Ranger Jeff is a con man!!! We travel extensively and never have experienced this type of trickery.
