| Great place. Can't wait to go back.

Very neat and clean grounds and super friendly staff. The campground is part of a civil war park and battleground. You can still see rifle trenches on the drive through. Several buildings have been moved in from other locations to be saved and they are part of the park also. The museum is filled with historic artifacts. Bathrooms are limited but kept up well. Spots are concrete and level and not too close to each other. Call ahead for availability because workers do use the campground when the power plant down the road has shutdowns for refurbishment. The upper campground is just that, it's up a steep hill. Shouldn't be a problem for most campers just put it in 1st gear and get started and don't let off till you're up.

If you need tv (unless you have satellite), wifi (unless you have a personal hotspot), and phone service (unless you're willing to travel 5 miles into town), this is not the place for you. But if you enjoy peace and quiet in a beautiful setting, you'll like this campground. There's an upper and a lower campground. You have to go up a steep hill to get to the upper campground so we stayed in the lower one, and we're glad we did. The upper campground is where the tent sites are located, and they're put to good use by scout troops and school groups on the weekend. The road into the campground is narrow, but the campground was practically empty while we were there so it wasn't an issue. The campground is a perfect place to relax, the people are nice, and the museum and battlefield are free for campers. You can wash your RV for $5 and your car for $2. The laundry has two washers ($1) and two dryers ($0.75). There's a shower/restroom at the upper campground. The shower/restroom/laundry for the lower campground is at the top of a hill, but there are stairs to get to it or you can drive up to it. Since we would rather use the shower and bathroom in our RV anyway, this wasn't a concern for us. The Old Country Store Restaurant on Rt. 61 in Lorman has an all-you-can-eat buffet for $15.95 that is absolutely great. Home-cooked Southern food, including the best fried chicken we've ever had. If you're lucky, Mr. D will be there and will serenade you at your table.
