Temporary closing
By user-5996678... on 2017-10-23.
Hard Labor is closed for RV camping 1/1/16 to about 5/2016. They are doing a major upgrade with refurbished RV sites, new showers and bathrooms, etc. At this time it is a fantastic place to stay so I don't see how they're going to make it better but the rangers say it will be worth the wait.

The staff is so friendly and helpful. We stayed on the equestrian park side, stables and all are very well kept, bathrooms are old but very clean, sites are gravel but fairly level, beautiful sites. Would definitely return

Great State Park
By user-5870494... on 2017-10-23.
Nice clean park with plenty of space for most RV sites. Some with full hook up. All with cable, water, power. New bathrooms and showers. Putt-putt course and lake with canoes and kayaks. Only reason I rated a 4 star is that all sites don't have sewer. There is a dump station however.

Beautiful well kept gem
By user-5899501... on 2018-03-14.
This place is gorgeous. Very well maintained lots, some with sewer, others with nice view of lake (not a pretty lake but still a lake). Nice people and many attractions in park (golf, mini golf, bike trails, hiking, very nice playground...)

Great park

The rebuilding of the park office is complete and nicely done. Several of the cabins were being remodeled while I was there. We dealt with some construction noise, but it is great to see the state upgrading the parks. The park was built in the early 30's by the CCC then turned over to the state in the mid 40's. Be sure to check out the history on the park sign and the photos of the CCC facilities in the park office.

Great park except most of the premium (full hook up) sites are very unlevel. Even with auto level you ll need several leveling blocks. Standard sites (30/50 amp and water) are much better.
Cellular and WiFi pretty much non existent except at the park entrance. Bathrooms are always clean.

A hidden gem, with just a few warts!

We stayed here in a premium pull-thru site (#3) on the last night of our 5 week western trip. We selected a full hookup site so that I could leisurely drain and flush the tanks before getting home. Other than the fact that it was not level, the site was fabulous! It s described as being 45 ? No way! It s probably 150 ! No neighbors on two sides, and very private! Lots of trees!
The only problems were minor. The quirks I have found at other GA state parks apply here. The office to check in closes at 5:00. We arrived at 5:10. Nowhere to park our 50 rig so we parked in the middle of the road. We found an employee leaving the trading post. She said to just go to our site, then check in the next morning. We said we d be leaving early, before office opened, she just shrugged. We found our site without any problem and set up. The main gate closes at 10 PM so as long as you arrive before that, you re good to go.
On the map, it looks like this park is right off the interstate. It s really not. It s about 6 slow miles through a small town with a number of turns. However, there are signs at every turn and using the street address on their website, got me to the campground gate using my GPS.
One tip: Don t stop for gas at the Valero station near the interstate. It should be condemned! You ll drive by a nice Chevron in town and it s cheaper.
