Nice place with plenty of space, free WiFi works well only in some spots. Currently showers are closed and only portable toilets due to drought. Stayed here twice now because the cheapest along the coast.

Classic CA State Park

Restrooms locked, portable toilets usable, lots of grass and trees. A great place for tent campers. We needed to stay near Cambria for a week, so this was a convenient park, despite no hookups. Fortunately, we made due with batteries, generator, and our tanks. The parking pads are asphalt. That was a blessing, given the torrential rains we experienced.

older park but well maintained and clean. two campgrounds in the park: san simeon has paved pads and streets, coin showers. washburn is primitive with dirt pads/roads, vault toilets but better views. Severe drought caused san simeon water to be shut off except for dump station and one water fill. Fees reduced to $25 for san simeon, $20 for washburn with $2 discount for seniors. No cell/wifi in san simeon, but can get cell signal in washburn. continued drought might cause dump to be closed. Host sells firewood-$10 for wheelbarrow load.

Stayed 2 nights in the San Simeon Loop. Typical CA State park with no hook ups. It does have hot showers and rest rooms. This park in conveniently located to Hearst Castle, Piedras Blancas lighthouse and the elephant seal rookery. Another disadvantage is there are lots of squirrels.

$20 for no hookups or access to any showers, $35 for electric only and access to coin operated showers. Facilities were in mediocre condition with large potholes in the roads.

One is what they call primitive and the other is a campground. The primitive is where we stayed. It's a paved road just up until the actual site which has dirt driveways. The primitive sites have tables, place for fire and pit toilets. We didn't see anything that would stop u from driving over to the showers and using them. Primitive was $20 normal campground was $35 for tent a d the site looks the same if not worse because of lack of trees.

Nice state park

We stayed 2 nights and enjoyed it all. Parking at site is gravel and mostly level. Picnic table and fire ring. Pit toilets are very clean and do not smell. $20 per night in the 'primitive' camping area with no hookups. Very quiet with good mountain views. Can't see the ocean from the campground, but just a short drive to hiway 1 and oceanside parking. Will certainly return.

Had 2 nights here in our campervan, nice quiet campsite and friendly atmosphere. Showers coin operated but kept clean as well as the restrooms. Dump station and drinking water available. Good location for exploring Big Sur.
Would stay again just think $35 is a bit much for no hook up and coin operated showers

Snowbirding Trip

Was okay for an overnight stop after a long day on the road. Was fairly quiet although the Military base next door was active all day and night with helicopters flying over as well as other transports. AS with any military base there was a range which was in use till late at night. Camp Host was less than friendly and did not like being disturbed. Sites are mostly level but washrooms were filthy. Generally this site is over-priced

Only Option

This place was out only option when looking for something near Hearst Castle. We aren t afraid to dry camp, which is good because that is all is. The issue is that generators can t be run from 8pm to 10am. I understand the evening but 10am is a little excessive.
The showers and bathrooms were also disgusting. The coin showers spit out plenty of cold water but no hot water. Overall, for the standards California puts out, this was a disappointment.

Washburn primitive

Stayed 6 days. Basically boondocking. There is water and a dump station. Was quiet at night. Some kids running through the campsite, but otherwise was a good experience. $20 a night.
