I liked the Heart of the Rockies. 8 miles from Salida, 25 from Buena Vista, and 25 from top of pass over Mt. Monarch. Sites are terraced, can make maneuvering your rig challenging. Can be dusty during dry periods. Rolled 5th wheel hitch back to make maneuvering easier. Occasional traffic noise from US 50, wasn't bothersome to us. Had stable power while here. Temps were about 10 degrees cooler than along the Arkansas River valley. Had walking trails leading from campground. Only saw two run down full time campers in CG. Would camp here again. We camped at Heart Of The Rockies Campground in a Fifth Wheel. Drive up Mt. Monarch to the Continental Divide. Great burgers at Hwy 50 Burgers in Salida. $30 night, full hookup. Stayed for 1 week.
Pulled in at five in the evening for an overnight stay, office was closed. Pulled out at seven in the morning, office was closed. Gravel roads pads and walkways. shower house was clean but dated. Rates posted on RV Parky were $44 it cost me over 50 with a military discount. Says is a brand new KOA. They re not quite ready to open.
