Reviews for Horseneck Beach State Reservation

| Camping on the Ocean

I love camping here IF I can get a site directly on the ocean side. Trailers park lengthwise rather than side by side. So, when stepping out your door you are on sand and facing the ocean. Sites across the "street" from the ocean are fairly good, too. It CAN be windy in these sites, but there are tie down rings next to the picnic tables. There are nice walks to Gooseberry Island, where dogs are allowed on the beach, and to the state beach which has a beautifully sandy beach. However, no dogs allowed. I prefer to go off season when the population is down and direct sun is not an issue as there is no shade. No electricity, sewer, or water. However there are well spaced water stations equipped with hose connectors to fill your tanks (not to remain hooked up, tho) and there is a dump station. Bath house has running water with hot showers. There are great restaurants in the area, and the town of Westport has small shops that are fun to browse.

Nice large sites - no hookups - clean restrooms & showers - currently updating facilities - nice sandy beach at low tide, rocky otherwise - will return - visited with 31' motorhome & toad

Our campsite was not that level, manageable though and paved. No hookups, but a nice dump station with potable water. If needed, you can use your generator from 7am to 10pm. All sites have a fire pit and picnic table. We were in a 39 foot 5th wheel, and fit easily into out parallel pull-thru site. There was a good mix of campers and tents. The facilities were clean and fairly new. Basketball court, volleyball court and a nice playground too. Your right at the beach, so it can be windy and salty. You're site fee allows you free entrance into the Horseneck State beach, a beautiful sand dune sprawling beach. Book early as the sites fill fast in the summer. I would stay again.
