Reviews for Huntington / Fox Fire KOA

Most sites lack fire rings... who does that? A few bricks per site won't cost that much. Personnel told us to build a fire on the ground... a first for us. All that said, it's a nice small campground. It is a bit noisy... nestled between an interstate and a busy secondary road. Nicely decorated for Fall/Halloween... with a Pumpkin Festival a few miles away. I'd give it 4 stars if it wasn't for the fact that most sites had NO fire rings. Campfires are a big part of camping.

We stayed here about 8 years ago. Convenient to I 70. Nice RV park with a very friendly staff who want to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. Quiet, good WiFi and big rig friendly. Pets are ok too and they have a nice pet walk along the perimeter and around the ponds. We got a premier site with a patio, nice patio furniture and a well built fire pit. Highway noise was noticeable.

| Great Overnighter!

I would give this 3.5 stars. It's better than my normal 3 ratings but not quite enough for my normal 4 rating. However, it is a very nice campground. It has great curb appeal and the owners are friendly. It appears that this may be a happening place that locals bring their families to for a weekend get-away. They had a huge pond with floatation equipment for the kids to play on, a beach area, playground, front porch with rockers, paved interior roads, clean laundry and bath facilities, cabins, and fire pits/patios at some sites. Many of the sites are grass or gravel. There is also a 180 degree turn into the campground if coming from Exit 28. We chose to play it safe and get off at Exit 20 so we could turn left and avoid that angle with our 43 foot rig that is towing a 4-door Jeep. They tell you about it when you make your reservation. I would not hesitate to overnight here again.

| Very Nice Overnighter

Stayed overnight 5/31/2016. Very nice location, EASY access from Hwy (US64). Bathrooms are amazing, easy private during use, and gorgeous wood paneling throughout. Sites are spacious and staff escort provided perfect location assist. Using 27ft MH, full hookup pullthrough, would definitely stay again.

Finding an RV park anywhere along I-64 is a challenge. The Fox Fire KOA, between Charleston and Huntington WV is a beautiful property with easy to access and (mostly) level pull-thru spaces. Very clean, nice bathrooms and showers. Each site had a picnic table. We would stay here again. We travel with a fifth wheel.

| Halloween here is like camping at great amusement park

By user-5858017... on 2017-10-23.

First of all, it is a KOA...full hookup amenities, wifi, TV, etc. Bathrooms were very good. Catch and release ponds, fenced K-9 area, and a basketball goal. Sites are a bit close..you are escorted to your site and assisted with placement..slides could touch each other...but they adjust your car parking so that you have plenty of room for your awning and table. Now....we happened to be there one of the two weekends that they celebrated Halloween. They told us when we reserved that we could participate or not....our choice. We chose to....but never dreamed it would be an amazing event. The park was full for this. Families dressed in themes....kids galore....decorated rvs. The campground provided lots of activities..pet parade, hayrides, gem searches, pumpkin painting, trick or treating (1 hour), and flashlight candy searches by ages. This is a must do for fun weekends during Halloween. We are retired and had no kids with us....but we loved all the activities.

My husband thought the sites were a bit close together for our motor home, but I think they were standard. This is my favorite placed I've stayed and I honesty couldn't improve it!

Great campground could not want much more. Mostly flat sites, great cable, wifi is slow. Sites are grass some mud & water with rain. Clean facilities & friendly staff. Right off of I64.

| Nice RV Park

We stayed one night in early April. Our pull-thru site was pretty level with some gravel and grass around the site, but muddy with a lot of recent rain. The site was large enough for the 2nd car too. We were guided to our site and helped get situated. The RV park is mostly satellite friendly, but we used their Cable TV for local channels - lots of channels too. The Wi-Fi was also quite good. But quite a bit of highway noise and a train track nearby, tolerable though. And they do recycle 100% here! Near a lot of shopping too. I would stay again.

| Definite must stay

By user-4940317... on 2017-10-23.

I pulled up outside on the road and saw a sign saying closed for the season, that's the park next store. My family and I have been travel from California on our way to Virginia and will definitely stay here again for sure, this has been the best experience, clean friendly staff and great for the my dogs too.

Decent access off the 64 but not too close to be disturbed by traffic. The staff is friendly and helpful. Sites were fairly level with gravel with EWS well placed. The laundry room was clean. We did not use the other features of this park.

| Favorite campground yet!

By user-6620284... on 2018-05-17.

LOVED this place! We had a large patio pull thru site and it was amazing. Huge site, beautiful fire pit with seating, outdoor furniture, and a gas grill. Wow! We paid more for this “premium” spot but it was all that was open for our sized rig. We stayed for two nights and would have loved to stay forever. Super clean bathrooms, friendly staff, and a well stocked camp store. WiFi and cable also worked well. Very impressed and would definitely recommend!

| Ah, KOAs – not the love of my life...

By anonymous-user on 2018-07-06. Stayed 2018-07-24 to 2018-07-25

First impression – one person handling check-ins and answering the phone. I waited at least 10 minutes to be helped. The woman did apologize but, come on, one person?? Our KOA membership had expired a couple weeks previous, and we didn’t renew because we are staying in private campgrounds the next few months. I had accumulated quite a lot of points and wanted to use some for this stay. No can do. Even if I renewed the membership right then the points “probably” would not be available. They’ll take my $$ right away but not give me access to points earned? Sigh. We had to reserve a “deluxe” site because the standard sites were too short. All the sites are close together. Our site was mostly grass with a bit of gravel. It was narrow and unlevel side to side. The best part was the broken concrete pad for outdoor seating that we missed by a hair hitting our tires. This while also trying to dodge the sewer connection on the opposite side. The only thing “deluxe” about the site was a firepit, a dirty grill, and poly furniture that included a swing and high table and chairs. The WII FI was hit or miss and so we used our hotspot. Lots of noise from Hwy 64 and train whistles as well. Directv satellite worked fine in our site as there were no trees. Verizon was anywhere from 1x to 4g depending on where you were standing. Most definitely not worth the price tag. You definitely want to approach from the west with a big rig as coming east involves a tight turn. They should advertise this loudly on their website.

| PRICEY FOR WHAT YOU GET

By user-4767828... on 2019-08-09. Stayed 2018-08-09 to 2018-09-20

Sites were SO close together. Lots of things for kids, but would have preferred shade and more space.

| Pricing is dodgy

By user-6531390... on 2019-08-09.

Online reservation is terrible. I tried booking a site online, with my phone and their booking was all messed up. I picked out a site for 42.65. According to what I read this was including tax. Because the reservation was not working on the app, I called and the women said that was the correct price and yes it was available. What I was told after receiving a 49.82 bill is that was the internet price. Why then would she mislead me into thinking I would only be charged 42.65? I asked her twice to confirm rate I would paying and she said, 42.65 . 7.00 more for a walk in? Really? The site had no shade, was uneven, grass and dirt, fire pit was full. For the price of almost 50.00, it was not worth it. I expect more from a KOA. Don t say one price and then charge another.

A nice surprise find. Very friendly staff and very level sites. My only negative is with the closeness of the standard sites. There are premium sites that look more spacious and have large patios.

| Bad 50amp plug in

By user-5847195... on 2019-08-09. Stayed 2019-07-22 to 2019-07-23

I had to share the 50 amp with a 30 amp camper on same line. This created a short in my electrical system that caused my gfci outlets not to work and couldn't plug in my fans. Also only 1 of mt AC units worked because of this problem.
