Free camping on public land (BLM) campsite. Tables, pit toilet, firerings, some shady spots. No water, electric or other amenities. Very quiet and peaceful, yet conveniently close to I-70. The access road doesn't require 4wd or high clearance, but might be challenging if you have a big rig, so scout it first if you have doubts. This is beautiful high-desert country with some world-class mountain bike singletrack trails close at hand. Can be brutally hot in the summertime. There is a large level RV camp spot which will accommodate any size rig about a mile or so to the east of Jouflas. BLM signage points the way after you exit the freeway ramp. This is also free.

The previous review was in fact written by me before I registered, so it shows as being written by some generic user # I should have mentioned that the McKinnis recreation area where this campground is located has a network of roads in all kinds of directions, some of then perfectly navigable by smaller RV's and camper trailers, and they often lead to dispersed primitive campsites which are often used by local people as well as visitors. OHV and dirt bike trails are plentiful too. It's very rugged and beautiful country. Be sure you have plenty of water. LTE cell service is widely available from the cell towers which service the nearby Interstate 70, though some localized areas may have the signal obscured by the terrain. Jouflas itself has a good H signal most of the time.

We have a 40 ft RV and dolly car. It was dark when we got there but after doing some research and reading, we knew right where to go. Big rigs shouldn t go past the first left. There is a big turn around area in the front. Not really the campground as given, but an area before. Smaller rigs should be able to handle the road to the bigger camping area.
