A COE campground that is popular with local fishermen on the weekends. Reservations are 24 hour in advance or first-come, first serve. It's 30 miles off the highway but the roads were fine for our 36 ft Class A. It's located down below the damn in the middle of the Missouri river with lots of wildlife. Electric, a few water spouts scattered around & a nice dump station. Take a free tour of the dam on Sat & Sun at 1:30 pm. $18/night. We'd stop here again.

Nice camp ground next to a giant dam. Great view over the Missouri River from the (large) spots. You can cycle in 15 minutes to the nearby town/Indian reservate which got a few shops for groceries. You can eat at the local Casino or go to Shelby's. There are a lot of playgrounds in the area. Also some beaches for swimming. we didn't try those yet. Some mosquitos.

Most cheerful ranger - Chyree - we have ever encountered. Camp hosts very nice also. Very well spaced out long sites with fire pits and wind shelters. Some have water views. Restrooms adequate, although not the cleanest. Sites have electric but no water and since May 2018 scattered spigots are non-potable so be sure to come with a full tank. Knowing this,I would stay again.

Just passing though SD headed east. Pleasant 20 minute drive and an even better loop back to 90. Walked in and they had plenty of sites. Some train noise, but the views made up for it. Sites have shaded picnic tables. Weak Verizon signal, but enough to get by. Not much shade.

| Large sites, clean Shower house, great value

We stayed in mid September 2018. This is not prime season, and we had no problem getting a site after arriving without a reservation. The section of the campground closest to the lake was moderately full.We had a pickup, 30 Ft trailer and a car. We got a site in the section that was further from the lake, opposite the shower house, that easily fit us, and this section was almost empty. Our site had a tree nearby that shieldedus from some sun, but most sites were not shaded. Each site has a curved sunshield that allows you to sit in done shade, but your RV would still be in the sun. Each site also has a concrete picnic table. The bathrooms, which had flush toilets and hot showers, were kept clean. The camp hosts manning the entrance booth were friendly and helped pick a site that met our needs. We met a COE park ranger and he was also very nice. I believe the rate was $18 per night for a site with electric. We paid half that because of our national park system Senior Pass. There are water spigots available for filling your water tank, and a nice dump station is also available. There are large parking lots and a nice boat ramp near the campground. The campground is located downstream of the COE operated dam. One rainy night we heard a loud horn sound three times in a row. This was just done as a warning to any nearby boaters that the dam was releasing some water-- nothing to worry about. The nearby town has an Indian Casino and a gas station/convenience store. We had two really good daily lunch specials at the Casino: price was around $7.00 and each included a nice salad bar and hot soup. One day it was a large hamburger and waffle frys, another day it was a huge serving of tater tots with taco meat, lettuce, etc. About 25 minutes away is the town of Chamberlain. There are multiple restaurants, a grocery store, antique stores, taverns, etc there. The free museum there at the LaKota Indian school is excellent and well worth a visit.
