Reviews for Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground

| Not your normal RV park...

This park is hard to rate. My first impression was fear! Driving a big Class A rig up these roads is a first for me. I can't imagine the original builder standing on top of the hill and saying "this will make a great RV park!" We made to our spot with some expert guidance from the staff... they were helpful. Once we got settled, I started to appreciate the beauty of the area... lots of trees, vistas and a very well-kept park. The spaces were good size, but most are back-in. The facilities are good, but the WiFi is slow. I have to say that I was distracted most of my stay thinking about how I was going to get back down the mountain. Obviously, I made it... but don't know that I'll try it again.

| Great, BUT

Got to concur with all the glowing reviews. Nice park. Hill blocks most of the highway noise. However, seems the neighboring property is building a road right now so bulldozers run from about 7 AM to around 6 PM. Might want to call and see if the road's finished.

| Great place, Great views

We stayed in the upper section with the mountain views. Full hookup with cable. Everything in top notch shape and crew is very friendly and attentive. We relay enjoyed our mornings and evenings sitting out looking at the mountains. A bit on the expensive side for us, thus 4 stars vs. 5.

| Excellent location, views, amenities

By user-5848851... on 2018-07-05.

We originally planned a one night stop here and liked it so much we extended our stay to 5 nights. Immaculate facilities...cleanest bathrooms and showers I've seen at any campground. Friendly staff. Good location, 1.5 miles to large grocery store and good restaurants and an easy drive to Asheville.

| Beautiful Mountainside Setting

By user-5904236... on 2018-07-05. Stayed 2017-04-16 to 2017-04-23

Love these folks! Friendly staff, and very nicely laid out & landscaped park on the side of a mountain. There is something here for everyone from tents to cabins to RVs of all sizes. For the largest rigs, they can accommodate you, but do not understate the size of your RV & toad or tow vehicle as they know exactly what will (and won't) fit on a specific site. Please note that as of this review (spring 2017) there is a housing development being constructed on the adjacent mountainside. Some have complained about the noise... it did not bother us. I found the WiFi spotty at times, and the water pressure seemed variable. We've already booked another stay.

| MaMa Gertie's RV Park - Excellent

By user-5897973... on 2018-07-05. Stayed 2016-04-29 to 2016-05-01

High marks all around for MaMa Gertie's RV Park. The park is located just outside Asheville NC, close to all the area attractions. The site is very scenic and slots are spaced better than most any RV Park we have experienced. The staff is very friendly and professional. Rates are a true value. Facilities are well maintained and clean. WiFi and Cable TV work well. One of best parks we've experienced for adult visitors. Note: the park is on a hill side on several tiers, adding to the beauty and slot privacy. Moving large 5th wheels and MHs can be a little challenging but very doable. The step hills may create problems for travelers with younger children. Overall - highly recommended. We stayed in a Motorhome.

| Loved it!!

Such a gorgeous campground!! We stayed in one of the spots up top and the view was spectacular. The campground staff was very friendly and helpful, and the bathrooms down at the main building were immaculate. We've already booked our stay for this fall. Can't wait!!

| Unreasonable Dealing

By user-4590397... on 2018-07-05.

Looks like a nice park, but we put our $100 deposit down months in advance, then my elderly father became ill and we had to postpone our trip. He is a 90 year old WWII vet who was in ICU and we did not know when he might be well enough for us to resume our plans. Because we were unable to provide them with a reschedule date, they kept our entire deposit. When Dad was well enough for is to travel I called them back on the day we were to arrive originally, tried to reschedule saying I would pay the entire month and stay only three weeks. The lady in the office told me we would still lose our deposit and have to pay another, Really unethical treatment during a family crisis for no logical or good reason. I feel ripped off and would advise not to visit this RV resort as who knows what unfair treatment you may encounter.

We went because the reviews said it was quiet. There is road construction right along the border of the park which is extremely noisy 12 hours per day (late March 2017). And it's only a half mile from the freeway, so you do get some freeway noise and distant train whistles. Sites are small, not quite level, and close together. They are on a hill, which seems to amplify your neighbor's noise. Facilities are very clean, and the place is well kept, but did not live up to the previous reviews, even without the construction noise.

| The ONLY place to stay near Fayetteville

By user-5867702... on 2018-07-05. Stayed 2016-07-20 to 2016-08-22

This is the standard ALL RV parks should be held to!!! Very friendly staff and campsites that are out of this world for views if you can get assigned on level 4. Oh, these sites are on the side of a mountain. It is tight and steep getting to the sites but well worth it, just be sure of your vehicle, especially brakes, and driving skills. This is a growing campground with level gravel sites some so new the mud is still coming though the gravel. A new bath house and laundry on level 4 was about to be opened when we stayed plus excellent wifi and cable TV if you want. This is DEFINITELY on our place to stay list when back in the area.

| The BEST!

By user-5389509... on 2018-07-05. Stayed 2014-05-08 to 2014-05-11

We are on a cross-country trip, gone for 10 weeks, traveling in a small motor home, and this is the best of all the campgrounds we have stayed in. It is very clean, beautifully landscaped, nicely designed with privacy in most sites, and very close to Asheville. Lots of shade trees and no trains or traffic noise! Lovely tiled bathrooms and shower stalls. I highly recommend it! We'd love to go back.

| Fantastic little mountainside cg

By user-2595010 on 2018-07-05.

Super clean cg on the steep side of a mountain. Nice little stream by the little cabins. The sites up top have the most room. No pool though.

| This is it!

The nicest and best thought out park I've seen. Such a relief from that awful KOA down the road. Nice folks too. I'll be back.

| Uphill Road is a Nail-Biter

By user-5339389... on 2018-07-05. Stayed 2017-09-23 to 2017-09-30

Beautiful setting, but, getting our 38 foot motorhome up the hills and into our pull-in site which had a steep angle we dragged the trailer hitch going in and backing out. If not for the great guidance of the staff, getting into our site would have been difficult. Our site was a small and repositioning the motorhome was not an option without antacids. Facilities are clean and well maintained. The WiFi was too slow to use. Very close to the 40, but, the road to the park was very narrow with the park entrance at a hairpin turn.

| Great place!

By user-5096177... on 2018-07-05.

We stumbled on this nice, quiet, and immaculately clean campground. Attractive sites with attention to detail. Not much for children to do, but great for us older folks. Minutes to Asheville, Black Mountain, etc. Biltmore Estate was our reason for visiting the area. We will definitely return if in the area again.

| Love the View

By user-4515734... on 2018-07-05.

Turns are a little tight, hills a little steep but the view at the top is worth it! Good WiFi and a great staff here.

| Great Place!

By user-5904348... on 2019-08-09.

This is an excellent, clean RV park that is easily accessible from I-40. Check-in was efficient and friendly. There are 3 tiers with the top tier having awesome mountain views everywhere you look. However, there is no shade, so that's the trade off, but we only had direct sun for a few hours a day, so it wasn't bad. The lowest tier has shade at most sites with the middle tier having limited shade. The drive up to the top was no big deal and very doable. We were surprised at some of the reviews indicating how scary/bad it was. There is an escort to your site. The WiFi was excellent, the cable had plenty of channels, and we had good Verizon cell service. Our FHU, pull-thru site was gravel and level. Our site was comfortably spaced from the neighboring site. There is an Ingles grocery, CVS Pharmacy, post office, and a few restaurants a short, easy drive away. We stayed in a motorhome and would gladly stay here again.

If you don t like it here, you should stay home.

| Extremely uncomfortable for large rigs

By user-4554189... on 2019-08-09.

The combination from inclines and turns made it extremely uncomfortable to enter past the secure gate. Our 43 footer and truck suffered from the inclines and turns, causing scrapes. The managers kept telling us we could make it and that bigger rigs have made it no problem, assuring us we were fine. Our fifth wheeler is too close to the bed of the truck and got stuck and scraped. Even while this happened they kept telling us it was fine. It was obviously not, and we left. They did return our money but we definitely left with a bigger expense. I do feel they should warn this in their website. But they did try to help us find a new place to stay.

| Great mountain campground!

By user-unknown on 2019-08-09. Stayed 2019-05-01 to 2019-05-02

This a lovely little campground. Yes, it s in the mountains and you have a few steep grades but we managed just fine with our 40 motorhome. The sites are well thought out and the staff is attentive and very helpful. We got great advice and help when parking and leaving. Unfortunately we could only stay for one night. We would love to come back and stay longer. Black Mountain appears to have a lot to explore.

| Breathtaking views!

Gorgeous views! So peaceful and quiet. We relaxed on deck enjoying the view almost every day. Facility very clean and everyone was friendly and nice. Laundry was cheap too!

We really liked this place. Spent last two nights. Very clean. Friendly staff. It is on the side of a hill, but that is part of the charm. Oddly, behind the Shell station just down the hill is a great breakfast. Much to do nearby.
