Manzano Mountains State Park

Great little well kept park at 7200 feet in the pines and junipers. Water filling station is near the dump station on the left. Electric 30 amp sites are 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14. 50 amp sites are 9 and 16. Site 9, 16 and 36 can accomodate large rigs. Large rIgs have fit in other sItes, but it is tight. Reservations are encouraged to get an electric site during peak times. ElectrIc sItes 11 and 12 are first come sites, but can be dIffIcult to get. Sites 2, 6, 7, 10 and 12 have covered shelters. For larger rigs, it is easier to enter sites 8 and 11 going the wrong way (contact park workers to do so). There are ample non reservation dry sites in the back loop, and a group shelter is available for a fee (see Reserve America). Reservations start April 1st, and end September 15. The park remains open untIl the park manager closes it for the season (check the park websIte There is no lake. The small fishing lake is nearby in the village of Manzano. There are no showers, and the park is transferring from flush toilets to very clean vault toilets, due to a declining water table. The drInkIng water is checked regularly for potability. The entrance road is a good gravel road, but is a bit steep at the end. Careful of entering the park after a heavy snow, it can be slippery. It usually melts and dries quickly. Bring supplies for your stay with you, because it is a drive to get them in this quiet, secluded area. Check out the Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument while in the area. Dry sites are $10, electric sites are $14, undeveloped sites with no grill or table are $8. Pay online for reservation sites at Reserve America or pay for non reserved sites at the stop sign as you enter the park. Extra cars must be permitted. They are $10 per night, or $5 for day use. Cars pulling campers or toads do not need to pay the extra vehicle charge.

I recommend that you stay at an RV RESORT then spend some time here. The difference in solitude is night and day. Previous reviews cover the park accurately. My main opinion is access. Anything over 40' is going to be challenged MANEUVERING in the park. THE GRADE LEADING INTO THE CAMPGROUND IS STEEP. KEEP YOUR RIG IN A LOWER GEAR AND MAINTAIN YOUR RPM'S.
