| Great park, ok Camp ground

Went for labour Day weekend and luckily got a full pull thru spot. Not that my trailer needs it, it is just twice the size of the other spots. Trailers and tucked in pretty close in compared to Provincial parks in Ontario. The rest rooms were spotless for a busy weekend. But the really great part of this is watching the boats come down the river or hanging out at their beautiful beach on Lake Michigan. Blown away by how nice the beach is.

Channel Campground is more spacious with several sunny spots amongst the tall trees, it is level with the beach, no enormous dunes between your spot and the beach. Michigan Campground is very woodsy and thus very dark. Spot #41 was large but underneath an enormous dune so between the tall dunes and the tall trees it was just too dark for us. For being early August, the campground guests were quite civil and the kids were very well behaved and happy happy happy riding their bikes and swimming in the lake. Great campground for families and groups of friends. In general, folks in Michigan and very nice. Would come back but would stay either at Channel campground within Muskegon State Park or go down the road to Pioneer Park, a county campground. Very nice and less expensive. Unfortunately the Michigan State Park system attaches fees to EVERYTHING!! My electric only spot cost $37 + $8 online fee PER reservation ( so if it's full and you are lucky to have some spots open up, you continually pay that darn $8. If you have assistance on the phone you are stuck paying $10 each time. Ouch!! Then there is yet another revenue stream entitled Passport fee disguised as if it's to your benefit. Not. I paid the $33 annual fee for this. If you have an RV and a toad, you have to pay that twice!! Or pay the daily $9 RV and $7 toad Passport fee/tax/surcharge. As I move up the state going North, I will be alternating between Walmart and parks otherwise it would be cost prohibitive.
