The park is VERY well cared for, nice place. Camping is just ok in my opinion, but I think I'm spoiled. One Loop is very open with no trees to speak of, and one Loop (lovers leap) has some trees but is pretty tight. And thanks to Virginia's non-stop specific reservation system, you are stuck leftovers. So, it is a nice park in beautiful country with ok camping.
We really enjoyed this unique park. The ski lift down to the tunnel was fun with pretty views. Pack old shoes for the kids so they can get in the creek and swim into the tunnel. Rangers told us to do it, so it is allowed.
We stayed in the open side of the campground over the week before and Memorial Day weekend. The camping experience was great, the camp host were the best ever. Bathhouse was always clean and well maintained. It got a bit crowded over the weekend, but the spaces are large enough you didn't feel like you were right on top of each other. It's definitely on the return list!
