Reviews for Oak Mountain State Park

| An Overall Pleasant Experience

By user-5258523... on 2017-10-23. Stayed 2015-07-29 to 2015-08-02

There are plenty of things to do. Fishing, hiking, biking, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, golf, etc. A great place for children and adults alike. Bathrooms need updating, there are only 3 washing machines in 3 separate buildings(one was out of service), WIFI is only accessible at the golf course. Nice level asphalt sites. Staff members are very polite and helpful. Overall, it was a nice, quiet, and pleasant stay. We live about 45 minutes away and we will return.

| Nicely treed park

We stayed two nights. Because it was storming, they parked us in an open area next to the bathhouse. That was best for the circumstances but most of the other sites are nicely wooded. You have a choice of just electric and water or FHU. We have a 33ft trailer and had no trouble navigating the park.

My family and I decided on the park as a place to sleep for the night. We were very happy with the stay and how quiet is was. Would definitely consider coming back!

| Fall Visit with daughter

By user-5687191... on 2017-10-23.

My husband and I travel in a motorhome and booked reservations for eight nights in October at the Equestrian Campground for a fall visit with our daughter and her family. We were returning to Florida from a six month western vacation. The park was busy with numerous activities. We enjoyed hiking some of the trails. The open stables in front of our campsite were converted to a shelter as we watched the workmen place a mental roof to shelter the horses. Most of the sites were occupied every night we camped at Oak Mountain. The full hookups appeared well maintained. The grass was cut on our second day. The bathroom and showers were clean. We recommend the campground to our friends and family.

What should be noted is that the actual campground is about 4 miles away from the day use area with the kayak rentals, beach, nice playground, family bike trail, etc...The bath house closest to us (section b) was GRUBBY. I am not prissy, I have traveled heaps to campgrounds and hostels around the world, the shower was gross here. And one of the toilets had only a curtain for privacy. So use your own rig. That being said, if you love your mountain biking, you will still really enjoy this park. The actual campground is clean, some sites are more shaded than others. Overall, it's ok, definitely not 5 stars.

| OK but not up to expectations

By user-5408566... on 2017-10-23.

Expected better camping from such a nice park. Nice staffers. For all the acreage in the park it's a shame the campsites are so close together and campground too well lit to enjoy the stars or campfire ambiance. Price is good for off season weekday but I would go somewhere else at peak season.

| Nice full hookup right next to a playground.

We had a great time. Plenty of room. A picnic table and fire pit at almost every site. We were near the bathhouse and playground. The kids played in the creek and hiked around. Will definitely come back.

| big park!

I only stayed there for A Convention. it was 40 bucks a night. has a lot to do. wake board park, horse back riding, beach , kayaks, paddle boats, lots of hiking tails. Staff was really nice. I was in and out of the park everyday. always someone watching the park front gate. I will be going back this fall when I have more time to enjoy the park. very quite at night!

| Equestrian, campsite

$43 a night on weekend no bathhouse but full hook up. Looks like some campers live here and they dont like dogs. I think they send everyone here if they come in at night. There is an awesome campsite further in next to big lake looked much better. I don't recommend the equestrian site. I'll try the lake site next time it is much nicer.

| Beautiful park

By user-5909839... on 2017-10-23.

We were only passing through and stayed one night. Plenty of shaded sights. We had a problem with the electricity on our site but we were too tired to notice until the next morning when our fridge was only operating on gas. Low voltage caused us to blow a fuse which had happened once before so luckily I had a spare. Popped that baby in and we were back in business.

The park is very pretty but the bathrooms need to be updated. We had over 20 tv channels but no satellite. We stayed here in a motorhome.

| Nice

By user-5141531... on 2017-10-23.

Great campground, horseback, golf, sandwich shop, hiking, fishing, cabins, playground, boat ramps, lake....close to town but located on 10,000 acres!!!!!! Only down side is only 30 amp but is full hook up! Great camping overall!!!!!!

| Great stay

Level paved pads. Clean and spacious camp sites. Staff are very helpful, friendly, and professional. Restroom facilities are dated but quite clean. The park offers a variety of recreational activities. As we stayed during the winter it was of little consequence but having only 30amp service would be an issue. If I have reason to be in the issue again I will stay there.

| Expensive and Worn

By user-5230348... on 2018-03-14.

Far, far down the park road is an expensive campground with very worn facilities and poor construction choices - slanted spots, badly located fire pits, etc. Two stars for the pretty location.

| Beautiful view of the lake

By user-5014724... on 2018-03-14.

Our site (A25) had a great view of the lake. The staff was polite and friendly. Bathrooms need updating but not an issue when you use the bathroom in your rig. Full hookup. We will definitely stay again. The RV Park is 5 miles into the park so the back exit may be closer for day trips down hwy 280.

| Natural Peace

By user-4798079... on 2018-03-14.

I’ve ignored this place most of my life. My loss. This place is beautiful. Lots of tent sights and full hook ups. Lots and lots of nature to take in. Staff is great.

Very good park. It is huge! Campground was great. Easy sites to park 34 ft. Fifth wheel. Many with water, sewer and electric. We stayed 1 nite on our way to Utah!. Would highly recommend. $28 but taxes were added to that plus reservation fee, but good for full hookups

| Good but.....

Very large park, lots of things to do, full hook ups and fair amount of local channels over the air. My number one complaint about this place is the bath houses in the campground. Terrible, terrible, terrible. I have stayed at many Alabama state parks and Oak Mountain by far has some of the worst bath houses in the campgrounds there are. If the state would update these the place would be awesome. I went in a couple of different ones and they were all the same. 1 leaky shower, 1 stall, 1 urinal. Basically looks like things were built in the 60s and haven't been touched since. Alabama has a great state park system, but they can improve here.
