We stayed 2 nights and would have stayed longer. Sadly, they charge 5$ per person per nite besides the camping fee!!! Beautiful place with miles of hiking and biking trails and lots of perfect picture locations.

This is our Go To spot when heading East-and-West through the panhandle. Probably the best kept secret in the national camping scene (although eveyone in TX knows, of course). Don't miss it when near Amarillo.

Where You Should Spend a Long Weekend

We came just to stay overnight and hike the Lighthouse trail. A busy State Park so come early as it is first come first served. Cost is 24 dollars a night plus 5 per person. Some discounts apply. We stayed in #142 in Sagebrush with a 25 ft motor home. All was great and pretty level. Some coyote howls but overall quiet and a great view and stay. The entry worked well,on a Saturday noon arrival. As we left Sunday the lines were long. Very popular for camping and day hikes and yes tents as well.
Some sites are less desirable and the Ranger will offer advice. Can be windy and wet at some spots. Enjoy!

The best state park we have stayed in in this part of Texas. We have made the trip there at least 3 times from San Antonio.

We stayed for one night on Sagebrush and another on Hackberry. On Sagebrush, there were more seasonal campers, on Hackberry, there were more short-term visitors. Both have their charm, but we personally liked Hackberry best, as some wild turkeys joined us in the afternoon and deer came nibbling on branches when we were having dinner.

Memorial weekend

If it weren't for how nice the park was, being w family, meeting nice neighbors, and our park host this place would get 1 star. During a busy weekend they have the worst entry for people visiting the park. The line backs up prob 1/4 mile to 1/2 a mile and you have to sit in it even if you have already paid and checked in. Yet they have many ways in they do nothing to make it a smoother visit for people. Second the office staff (fat man who sits in there and does nothing) gives no help. I have a 45' fifth wheel (not to mention my truck) and the turns are very tight along w people driving quickly around turns. Our park host was friendly and opted to ignore mr fatty and help me out which was very nice of him by stopping traffic around the right turns. State police guy even said they have wrecks a lot that way and one happened the day before we left. Besides the entry and fatty the park is outstanding w many views, 50amp and water w clean bathrooms.

Amazing place!

This place is just amazing! There are at least 4 different campground areas within the canyon with some that are better for larger campers than others. It's about a 6-8 mile drive or more from one end to the other. It was a beautiful place to ride our mopeds. It has just rained so all the trails were closed. Nice bathrooms. We were just here for one night but we will definitely come back. Great camp hosts. The only down fall is that there is no internet or phone service within the park or even at the park entrance. It has a great Visitor Center with a movie about the history of the area. It sells books and lots of beautiful gifts.

The park is nice with lots of wildlife to see. The sites are not level, or at least the ones in our section were not. Water and electric were good. Take hiking boots and lots of bottled water for going out walking. Nice views and very clean. It wasn't busy when we were there.

Surprising Park

We stayed at the Hackenberry loop. when you arrive there are dramatic views on the drive into the canyon where the various campsites are located. As soon as we got situated in the campsite several turkeys came by to check us out. The park is beautiful with clean sits, good hikes and interesting history. Only issue is the bath house, which was reasonably clean, however the maintenance has not been kept up. Otherwise it would have been a 5.

Juniper Campground

Awesome place! We stayed at the Juniper Campground & still had nearly empty tanks when we pulled out. Dump station is just up the road & easy to access. But the bathrooms are nice & we hardly used the one in the camper. Beautiful views out the camper windows. Spots feel private with the trees, lots of room for the kids & dogs to roam without getting in anyone else's area. Hiking trails are great! Lots to do if you like hiking & exploring. Great place, we will definitely be back.

Stayed here 3 nights . Star gazing was the best. Lots of room to set up a screen house. Covered patio with nice picnic table and a fire ring. A little pricey but worth every penny. Saw deer, road runners, wild turkey while hiking. Coming back with more time. Stayed at Juniper campground at bottom of canton

We were assigned a relatively flat spot in the Hackberry loop. I think it was site 23. Our 19 foot trailer fit perfect and still had room for a full size truck. Dump station was at the start of the loop and close by that site.
Very quiet at night. Could hear the coyotes.
The entrance to this place is pretty tight for bigger rigs. But I saw trailers and RVs of all sizes. You'll have to go pretty slow on a couple of the corners because theres no way you can do it without crossing the line slightly. Going down the entrance hill requires first gear.
There are a couple sites at the start of hackberry that are completely un-usable to an RV. I would assume they know this and would not try to put someone with an RV in these two sites.

Great campground! We stayed in the Juniper circle. Big pull-through sites and very private. The showers were big, but lots of bugs. Also, there were tarantulas all over the campground. We saw several, so watch your step!

Unbelievable beauty; dozens of trails; horseshoe pull-thru spots; each site has shade over picnic tables; bathhouse clean with good shower pressure & ledges to place items; got astoundingly hot as there is no shade over camper at canyon floor; sand was too hot for dogs; about 30 min drive to Amarillo; will visit at a time other than summer next time!
