Reviews for Ponderosa Campground

| Ok for an overnight, but...some issues

By user-5824428... on 2017-10-23.

A nice looking log cabin style office and store, giving a nice 1950's ambiance as you drive in. Once inside you find the spaces are very tight, especially the back-in spots. Lots of trees, which would be nice if they were trimmed up to avoid scratching the sides of our camper, and generally making it difficult to back in. There was very little maneuvering room for our spot. The site was very crowded, with about 5-6 feet space between campers. There is a nice grass dog walk area, but some people did not clean up after their pets (also no trash cans in the area). It doubles as a tent camping area, which seems a bit unsanitary. Overall, we found it to be ok for an overnight stop, but the town has lots of cowboy-themed attractions if you stay longer.

We love this place. Tents to RV's towing, even cabins overlooking the canyon. Clean showers, laundry, gift store. We like that we can walk downtown to Erma's, watch the nightly shootout, or jump the bus to the Rodeo. Yes, quarters are tight but we feel you can find a cozy spot and make it your own. It's camping!! Make reservations as soon as you know your dates, we where a week out. Our second visit, gets better all the time.

| Good pit stop.

Lots of trees and shade, clean bathrooms and showers. Stayed one night while passing thru. Couple blocks from the Bill Cody museum.

| Adequate

By user-6626806... on 2017-10-23.

Adequate campground. Sites are closely spaced with no fire rings. Toilet/shower facilities are clean and modern. If you're in Cody and need full hookups it's a good option.

| Adequate, does the job

Close to the town for getting around, kinda packed in together, hook ups on the wrong side of rv, spots close together, place was nice and clean though.

Quite possibly the nicest mgrs. , we have encountered! Restrooms are spotless, nice gift shop, close to Dairy Queen! Within walking distance to the museum. Gravel, all sites have FHU.

| Adequate but pricey

By user-4596359... on 2017-10-23.

We stayed a week, using Cody as a base camp for several day trips. They will not give a weekly rate, Just a small Good Sam discount, so it was pricier than we expected. The sites on inner section are very close together. We were on outer perimeter, but close to highway. It was noisy and made worse by road work all week. The water, elec, and cable were on wrong side, and sewer at the back of the site. Was workable but inconvenient. Staff were very friendly and laundry was nice and clean. Wifi was ok, better in morning and late at night. Not sure I would choose this campground again.

| OK BUT TIGHT

Nice office & staff but the spaces redefined cramped - even for our little 21 ft trailer. Reasonably located for visiting Cody but we'll look for a different place to stay for next visit.

| Tiny Tiny spots on asphalt lot $42

By user-6441512... on 2017-10-23.

The campground is in a good location and has full hookups and nice staff, but that's all the good I can say. They gave us a spot that was literally like a parking place all asphalt, no shade, no table, then they offered to move us to a spot that backed up to a green ...that had a fence between us and it so we couldn't really get to it. We said no thanks and left. Went to the State Park, no full hookups but electricity and water available to fill the tank, only $22 and much better views!

| Nice park

By user-5856571... on 2017-10-23.

Nice friendly staff, close enough to down town you can walk. Was only able to stay 3 days because if the 4th of July they were packed. They only take cash or check, but was told ahead of time so we're prepared. Would stay again.

| Great RV Park

By user-5226683... on 2017-10-23.

Located right in town, close to everything. Staff friendly and helpful. Clean facilities and level sites with green grass. They DO NOT accept credit cards, it's cash or checks only. Have stayed here twice so far and really like this CG. It's clean and well run. They respond to any issues promptly.

| Nice park

Stayed here for a week the beginning of June. This is nicer than the KOA and about $12 a day cheaper. My site was pretty level with plenty of room to get in and out. I didn't use shower or bathroom, but laundry was good size and clean. The staff was very friendly. Wifi was about average with peak times being hard to stay connected. It's an easy walk from here through town. Just under 4 miles round trip. Broken up with stops to look and shop. Will stay again if I'm going to Cody.

| Close to town

| Ok park

By user-5849359... on 2017-10-23.

Park was just ok. Our space was really small and tight. Sewer hook up for neighboring site ran across our space. Laundry room clean and staff helpful for things to go and places to see

Love the small town of Cody. Its our second time here but our first time with an RV. This park is nice, clean and the hosts are very friendly and helpful. Other than having a bit of rainstorm, we enjoyed our stay. Would stay again if we ever pass this way again!! (nd)

| Confusing Mess

By user-5252891... on 2017-10-23.

First, this Park fails to tell you they will not take credit cards, so you will need to step over to use their ATM and get hit with service fees which partly go to them. Had a reservation, checked in and was sent to a space already occupied. After that, they put us in a space that when occupied requires you to drive over waste drain. You need to run water and electronic over to wrong side of RV. Everyone we talked to complained how badly planned spaces were and over priced. Whomever put the place together must have been drunk as anyone who would be stupid enough to go back again. Noisy, chaotic, mess of a park. If you have a choice, stay in Walmart parking lot. If I hadn't of already paid, that is where I would be.

| Just alright

| Just adequate

I have mixed feelings about this park. The staff were super friendly on check in. I was unaware they didn't take credit cards, so had to go get checkbook. Not a problem, just wasn't prepared. Our site was nice as we were in the 2nd section for bigger rigs, so had a pull-thru site. We were on the end, so no neighbors on one side, which was nice. Site was level and gravel. Sites are fairly close, but manageable. Cannot leave the toad hooked unless you have an extended sewer hose as the sewer hook up was far away from the elec., so we couldn't pull all the way forward. Would've been a problem if only staying overnight, hence one reason for a pull-thru. The interior spaces in the 1st section are like a can of sardines. I would not have wanted to stay there. Very unappealing. Some of the back-in sites along the perimeter were not bad. Depends on if they were at the road or not. The ones that backed up to the road would have been very noisy. Laundry was very nice and clean. All-in-all the CG was clean. WiFi was horrible unless you sat at the laundry area or near the office. It was great there, but was awful at our site. Cable was good with plenty of channels. We stayed at a different CG last year that was cheaper. Not sure I would stay at Ponderosa next time...not sure it's worth the extra money, but it is closer to all the action. If I did, it would only be in the 2nd section.

| Convenient Campground

By user-5080447... on 2017-10-23. Stayed 2015-06-30 to 2015-07-02

First let me begin with the positive- very convenient to downtown Cody activities, very pleasant/helpful staff. Clean large laundry. Well kept facility. Spaces close together, wifi just ok at best during OFF hours Try for an inside space because we had a space that was close to the main road and it was VERY noisy- it seems like the locals like to drive by rev their engines and blow black diesel smoke at ALL HOURS. Did not check out the bathrooms.

Very tight spaces. Voltage on our and neighbor's site got down to 109-110 volts. We hope that it didn't damage the A.C. units. Excellent location. Highway next to it was very noisy!

| Gut und nett

Guter Park mit netter Bedienung. Alles hat einwandfrei funktioniert. PP war für unser RV (25 Feet) ausreichend gross. WY angrenzend. Spielplatz vorhanden.

| 1 Night layover

By user-5453549... on 2019-08-09.

Need a layover on the way to Yellowstone so we stopped at The Ponderosa. Nice place. Full hookups. Good showers. Lots to do nearby but we only stayed one night. Pulled in after hours and paid in the am. Owner was a great guy. Probably would ve stayed late ne er but the plan was Yellowstone.

| Right in town

By user-5813624... on 2019-08-09. Stayed 2019-06-05 to 2019-06-08

You can walk to the Cody Museum from the campground. We and our friends camped in 37 ft motorhomes. Our sites were pull through, but the sites in the older part of the park were incredibly close. There is so much to do in Cody, it is hard to get it all in. Highly recommended.

We prefer not being packed in like sardines but we opted to stay here to explore Cody rather than driving back and forth from the campgrounds between here and Yellowstone. As with everything in Cody, you are right along the main street through the town and will definitely hear traffic if not be right along side of it. $43 plus tax with military discount. Steep but seems to be the going rate in Cody. Believe they are all full hookup sites so we did enjoy luxury of longer showers.

Basically something is fundamentaly wrong when your picnic table is over your neighbors dump hole. But when your the only show in town next to Yellowstone what ya gonna do?
