The area was very nice. We were there in early January. Freezing nights so disconnect and clear your houses at night. They allowed fires on your site as long as it was in a pit off the ground. Otherwise you had to use one of their pre-staged pits and there were only about four or five. We camped there in a trailer.
As RV parks go this one is better then your average park. It has a nice setting and nice staff. Where this park is lacking is in it spaces. It is devided into two sections. We stayed in the section accross the stream from the office. There are a couple pull through sites, but most are back in and just long enough for your trailer, with no space to park you truck. So everyone just parks where they can I. The right of way, which makes for a confused mess to drive in and out of. The spaces are cramped as well. Literally, our awning was inches from the back side of our neighbors trailer and their was the same from their neighbors too. The other thing that bothered me was the name. I am a fisherman who likes to fish and eat fish. I assumed when I read the name "Rainbow Lake" (as in Rainbow Trout ) and the fact that is next to a trout lake, that this park catered to fishermen. When I caught a limit of trout and ask if they had fish cleaning facilities, to my surprise, they had nothing. They also did not want me cleaning the fish at my site for fear of attracting bears. When I asked them where I could clean them, they had no answer. This really bothers me. You build an RV park next to a trout lake and name it after a trout, but you have no place for fishermen to clean fish. I find that just a little deceptive. JMHO. Bottom line, if you don't care about fishing and being cramped, this is a pretty nice park. Our spaces (61) was very uneven, but most are not.
This is close into town but with a wilderness setting. The only reason I didn't give higher rating is because there is too much open dirt, not enough gravel and gets muddy when it rains which I hate Also not enough grassy areas in campground. There was a lot of wildlife which was a plus.
