Nice, clean, safe

The folks here are very nice, store has lots of supplies. Laundry is fine, but only one machine. Hikes available from site. Site is a large parking lot. Power goes off when wind kicks up, happened twice. Honestly, it's the only place to stay, but cheer up, it's good.

All back-ins, full hookups, 30-50 amp. No cable. Free wi-fi at store. Hookups at back of lot, sewer hookups at side. Some of the sewer hookups were horizontal which made an interesting situation. $35.00 a night.

At first glance just a parking lot, but lots of green space all around and sunset on the Sierra del Carmen mountains is breathtaking. Staff very friendly and helpful. Wi-Fi works at the store. Great place to stay!

We stayed in the Rio Grande Village without water, electric or sewer but the RV sites were large, nicely spaced so you weren't lined up like sardines in a can, and had beautiful large trees. The park is huge with tons of hiking and beautiful drives! The RV park with hookups in the Rio Grande Village area was on blacktop and not at all attractive.

We stayed there five or six times. Looking forward to our next trip. With a seniors pass it only cost $7 to stay at the campsite ( no hook-ups ) and the park entrance was free ( saved $30 ). Generators have to be shut off early evening. There is an area which does not allow generators at all.

First time stay at the RV Village. Curbing for sewage service add another obstical to parking. The campground is a paved parking lot. RVs are side-by-side. It's an international dark spot with excellent opportunities for star gazing.

We stayed in the full hook up area nice clean showers available, 5 mins for $2.00 and worth it.

Very Large Sites

This review is for the Big Bend National Park campground not the RV Park. The sites are huge and without electric water however a dump station is located near the exit. No Wi-fi cell phone coverage at our site. The rate is $14 unless you have a senior national parks card then to $7. The reason we went to Big Bend Nat'l Park was to visit Boquillas Mexico. Visit to Mexico was a great experience with the rowboat across the Rio Grande and the donkey or truck or walk into town, however our visit to the park was a dud.

It is a parking lot but you are spaced out in a way that doesn t feel crowded. Lots of area for kids to play. Booked 2 nights and was able to get one more due to cancellation. Lots of empty sites that are reserved but no shows. Wish they would cancel reservations after one night no show, there has to be a better way, perhaps charge then for the entire reservation

Basic dated, pay showers

A parking lot with all back in sites. The sewer hookups are elevated about 10" off the ground. Weird. Our water valve was partially plugged. Had to walk a long ways to laundry/shower house. Each bath had only 1 shower for $2 for 5 minutes. This serviced RV park and NPS campground next door so wait times were in play.

Advance Planning Is Wise

We originally planned to stay one night at Big Bend in a boon-docking area. When we learned that generators are not allowed in the back-country areas, we decided to head to the Rio Grande Village RV Park. With temperatures ranging from 80 to 110 during our stay, we knew air conditioning would be necessary.
Rio Grande Village RV Park seems well managed (the park is managed by a private contractor - not the Park). We did not have any problems with power, water, or sewer. As others have said, this campground is essentially a paved parking lot with hook-ups.
The store is well stocked - including ice cold beer. The laundry and bathrooms could use updating. Gas and diesel are sold at the store.
Here are a few facts that we missed during our trip research and planning:
1. Big Bend National Park is huge and very remote. For example, it is a 58 mile drive from Rio Grande Village to the Santa Elena Canyon. Fuel management is super important. There is fuel available at Rio Grande Village and at Panther Junction Visitor Center (prices are above average).
2. Rio Grande Village has zero cell phone signal. We tried both Verizon and AT&T.
3. The wi-fi hot spot at the Rio Grande Village seems to have two speeds - slow and slower.
4. It gets very hot at Big Bend in late May. Plan accordingly to protect yourself and pets from the heat.
Big Bend is an awesome National Park. Just plan well for your visit.
