Reviews for Santa Rosa Campground & RV Park

Nice check in. AAA or Good Sam Discount. Good for overmight

| Excellent overnight stop

By user-6025179... on 2017-10-23.

We liked our spot --- it had shade, loved the circadian choir at night, friendly others also stopping by for the night. Convenient to the freeway but not right next to it. Best part was having a nice dinner delivered to our campsite after a long day of driving. You gotta order for delivery by 6pm and the food comes in a timely manner. They even delivered dessert a bit later with fresh ice cream that was perfect for the hot evening. We were located next to the dog park and bathroom --- and we got to meet a number of great traveling dogs as they came around for their walks. Bathroom was tired and not air conditioned but ok for its purpose. Highly recommend this as an overnight stop.

| Wanted to stay

By user-5512186... on 2017-10-23.

I called about 4 hours before arrival. The gentleman answering the phone was short and rude. When he picked up he said " I've got people ahead of you please give your name and I'll call you back". No "Hello", or "I'm sorry I'm swamped", It sounded like a recording. So I waited for a beep or time to leave a message. He said "HELLO!" I apologized and explained I was confused and thought it was a recording ! He was irritated and reiterated he'd need to return my call. Needless to say, he never called. Guess he didn't need our business.

Over priced @ $31. Gravel pads. Non existent WiFi. Staff wasn't very friendly. Find somewhere else to park.

| We wanted to stay .....

By user-5787219... on 2017-10-23.

We drove through the park and there were a few long termers, but plenty of open spots. When we went to get a spot, there were water and electric only, no sewer. It advertises having full hook ups, but was disappointed.

| OK at best

By user-5208737... on 2017-10-23.

We weren't impressed, certainly not as impressed as the owner is with himself. A one night stay, with a no cancellation policy. Site was electric and shared water, which was all we needed. No cable TV and WiFi was pretty much useless. We didn't use any of the facilities and the pool is closed for the season (in 85 degree weather.) We passed on the food too, just didn't appear to be a very professional setup. Will bypass next trip.

| Good spot with on site food

After a long Drive & pulling in & immediately pulling out of Rambling Rose because it was such a dump, we reluctantly (because of a few bad reviews) decided to try this place. Walked in close to 6pm without a reservation & Chris found us a site long enough to accommodate our 43'MH & tow vehicle without having to unhook. Electric & water only but they have a dump site. Bonus, they have an on site restaurant & deliver to your site, perfect since we were tired. Not sure what the negative comments about Chris were all about but I'll take a quick witted person over some clueless person (and there are a LOT out there) every time. I especially liked when he answered the phone while we were checking in, someone was asking for directions & he said I can give you bad directions or good directions for $20.00 which do you want? Lighten up people. Will definitely stay here again if coming through the area.

| Good Park and Good Service

By user-5883014... on 2017-10-23.

Typical NM landscape, with nice pull thru for triple slide 36' FW. Limped into park with a damaged trailer after a blown tire, no reservation and 3 campers ahead of me. Check in was quick and owner called local garage to assist with repair.

| Good location

By user-6733665... on 2017-10-23. Stayed 2014-10-25 to 2014-10-26

We pulled in about 7:45 at night and had a quick and easy check in. The guy was getting ready to close up and set up night registration but he helped us out. Given some other reviews I thought this place was in the middle of the woods. It's not. It's right off 40 with some trees but lots of gravel. It was fairly crowded when we arrived but not too bad. We had no issues with bugs or anything else. It was fairly quiet for our one night here and we would stay again. Easy pull in and out.

| Easy night check in

By user-5791737... on 2017-10-23. Stayed 2015-05-30 to 2015-05-31

Pulled in late with no reservation and easily checked in, paid, slept and left early. Quiet, comfortable park with a nice serene view. Would definitely recommend.

| Nice Overnighter

By user-5714623... on 2017-10-23.

Nice place to stop for the night. Check in was qwik and easy and offers military discount. Restaurant on site that delivers but we did not order. Bathrooms are clean. This is a desert type setting so there will be some dust. Sites are large pull through and able to accommodate tt bigger than our 35 ftr. Would stay here again.

| Very nice place

OK, some folks are not going to like the attitude of the owner because he is very frank, but playful. When he gets very busy do not expect him to give good phone, or be particularly diplomatic. We found him to be amusing, and like his place. The park is well off the highway but with easy access to I40. The sites are ample with numerous trees. We would gladly stay again.

| AWESOME Place Thank You Chris

Will certainly stay here again when passing through NW Chris the owner goes out of his way, love the customer service

| Too expensive

By user-4877674... on 2017-10-23.

Very friendly office staff. GEEAT food delivered to your site. But, all facilities are run down and in desperate need of upgrading. Could not use showers. Pool closed. Tight gravel spaces which are not very level. Would not stay here again.

| Happy rest

By user-5830127... on 2017-10-23.

After going to the state park to try and find a spot and finding they were all reserved, we were fortunate to get a spot here at the Santa Rosa Campground. Chris, the manager has a funny sense of humor. He teased me about double charging because of the balloon festival but he gave us the regular rate. On-site barbecue place had ribs and brisket and homemade peach cobbler! Flat site and tree for shade. We thought we would hear the highway and the trains but no problem for us. We actually had a really great night sleep. The showers are hot and restrooms are clean. The laundry was great. We decided to stay an extra night!

| Good overnight stop

By user-6722309... on 2017-10-23.

Nothing very upscale about this park, but it was a good overnight stop. Late check-in was a breeze due to good instructions. Showers were decent, easy access pull-thru for my 23' trailer. Gravel/dirt roads look like dust could be a problem but I wasn't bothered by it during our short stay.

| Good overnight stop

By user-5846703... on 2017-10-23.

Basic rv park. We had full hook ups. Was a bit tricky finding out how to turn the 50 amp breaker on. Pad was level. If you have rear connections, it may be difficult getting your elect to reach. Side connections shoukd be OK. septic is hard tp find. The site was *just* long enough to fit our F250 & 31ft. trailer. Everything reached OK. Did not drop the trailer since we only stayed one night.

Stayed over the week-end and what a nice place. Owner/Manager was busy all night helping folks check-in and taking care of any issues. The cleanest campground I've ever stayed in. Bathroom's old, but also very clean. Pool was good as well. Had the ribs delivered to our camper and they fall right off the bone. We will be back to stay again. Follow the simple rules and you will get along just fine.

| Great for big rig!

By user-6280523... on 2017-10-23.

A lot of places say they have big pull through sites and really don't. This park does and roads are wide enough to maneuver into your spot without fear of hitting another car. We just spent 1 night while heading east. Easy and friendly checkin process. They have a nice restaurant menu and we had ribs delivered to our site! Easy to get to from highway and several gas stations close. Would stay again.

| Run down

By user-5818016... on 2017-10-23.

Very unkept and run down. Grass not even trimmed! Paid $37 too much for what you get! More concerned about getting you in the restaurant. Ok for overnight, but that would be it.

I was given a gravel pull-thru site which was plenty big enough for my 42' 5th wheel and truck to park on. My site was real close to the neighbor, but no problems. I had E/W, but no sewer. Some sites have sewer hook ups, but most don't. They have a pump out station. I used my dish instead of their cable. The bathrooms & laundry were clean and up to date. We ate in the restaurant both nights and had great dinners at a reasonable cost. Found the staff here to be quite friendly. Yes, I would stay here again

As an unwitting hostage of Santa Rosa due to mechanical issues and the coach mfg shipping the wrong parts, I stayed here for almost a week. It's definitely the nicest stay in Santa Rosa. I checked out the others as well. I see some people complain about the owner being rude but I found the reality to be that if you give him the same respect and patience that you expect, he's kind and is an interesting person to talk to.

| We'd Definitely Stay Here Again

We checked in without a reservation and Chris was very accommodating. I had a good conversation with him. It's clear that he works with pride and I very much appreciate that. The park was laid out nicely with plenty of room between sites. Since we only stayed one night, we weren't able to take advantage of most of the facilities. They have a restaurant and will deliver to your RV site. How fun! Thanks for your hospitality, Chris. We'll definitely be back!

Just Loved this Place. Very welcoming. Excellent, Friendly staff. Chris and Matt were great. The Restaurant was very good also. Try the delivery to you're rig. Bath house's were very clean and inviting. Had good power, and very strong Wi-Fi. Pet area as clean as the rest of the facility. Will stop again. It was suggested to stop and see Bozo and his Museum a must see also. Thanks for a great Quiet night.

| Average place, no WIFI

By user-5577666... on 2017-10-23.

As you read other reviews for this place you'll find mixed results based upon the guy behind the desk. In one, he's good, others, not so good and so goes the park. It is average in quality, nothing special kind of place with or without wifi. I couldn't connect even though I had two bars of signal. I had no sewer connection but paid the same price as those who do. Would not stay here again due to the price for what you may or may not get based solely on his mood.

| Okay stop-over

By user-5832789... on 2017-10-23.

Only paid about $27 for electric and water hook-up and everything was satisfactory except wi-fi was extremely weak. They gave a lot of excuses for wi-fi indicating problem was probably on the user end, but all my equipment works great at other parks. Barbecue was okay, but stay away from the peach cobbler which is a rip-off at $4.25. It is small serving with crust on top and bottom with very little canned peach filling in between.

I must say if you have a chance to meet the owner, Chris, he's the best. There is no gray area with this man. He tells it like it is and never sugar coats anything. I just love that. Remember the golden rule. Treat people like you want to be treated. This is how Chris rolls. Show respect and you will get respect, PLAIN and simple......otherwise KARMA is a bit_

| Just ok

By user-5791209... on 2017-10-23. Stayed 2016-09-17 to 2016-09-18

Not bad, but not all that good. Food is good but should be better for the price. BBQ brisket was $15.00, fried chicken was $14.00, definitely not a bargain. Wasn't that crowded and still couldn't get a sight with sewer. Electricity never got above 118 volts and that effects any of your electric motors longevity in particular your air conditioner. Basically a port in a storm and thats about it.

| GREAT stay, either overnight or for much longer!!

This RV park was a GREAT find. We actually drove an extra 70 miles to get here. Will definitely come again when passing through. This Park is SAFE, clean, convenient, and ran very well. The park is older but the management does a fantastic job of keeping things clean and working. The owner will go out of his way to help you, if you but ask. Everything works and is available. We purposely tried to utilize all the facilities. In a week's time, we have repeatedly watched RVer's come through, be rude, complain constantly, misuse/abuse equipment and facilities....then leave negative feedback. What a shame!! Don't miss out on a really good stay that is right off I-40 and very quiet and SAFE!! This is particularly important to us as we travel with children and walk a LOT. The laundry facilities are priced well ($2.50/load). All the showers work and the hot water is plentiful. The restaurant was delicious!! Give these folks a try! 50AMP works great, cable has plenty of channels, water hookup is neat and clean. Excellent park for an OVERNIGHT stay. Plenty of room for BIG RIGS to turn around and maneuver. Trash Bins are placed very conveniently and checked often for emptying. If Freezing weather, just follow management's rules and all will work out well. Propane sold on site and may be the only place in town to get it. Very convenient dump facilities.

By user-4987185... on 2017-10-23.

Rude owner/guy at the desk. Overpriced for what it is- a place to park for the night.

This campground was pretty good. Checking in was smooth and had a big pull through for my 34 ft with tow dolly and toad. We ate at the restaurant which was us ok. Easy access from any exit off I 40. We are staying again on our return trip to Florida.

We stayed 3 nights. The management was fun and cooks too. The restaurant on the site serves smoked foods like ribs pork and brisket. The pool and laundry were welcome pluses during our stay. Also they have a camp store and souvenirs. We had fun there. Loved the blue hole abd three quaint golf course. .

Nice and quiet place to stay. One of the owners has a sarcastic sense of humor but we found him funny. Internet worked at first but then died. Their explanation for their poor internet per their rule sheet had to have been written by the sarcastic owner but at least he was honest and we knew it would be poor connectivity.

By user-5853085... on 2017-10-23.

Good stop over location. Easy access from 40 and accessible sites. Quick check in after making reservation. Many vacant sites and reservation was not necessary this time of year. Did not try the on site restaurant.

This was a good overnight stop as we drove towards California along Interstate 40. We pulled in with no reservations and did not have a problem getting a fhu pull thru for our 40ft fifth wheel. It is a little tight getting out but totally doable. We have seen a wide range of reviews on this park and were a little skeptical, but no problems for us. They do have some strict rules but nothing unreasonable, follow them and you should not have a problem. We would stop here again.

| Great stop over

By user-6148906... on 2017-10-23.

Lots of room, clean restrooms, meals from the restraunt can be delivered to your lot, easy access, plenty of fuel choices in town, check out is 2:00. If you've seen "Cars" this is Radiator Springs everything in the town is there for people passing by, and the at the NAPA parts store is great, with good prices. Word of caution, State Patrol will ticket you if you stop on the road waiting to turn into the camp ground $300 ticket makes for a bad day.

We stayed one night here in a 40' motorhome. Arrived late and staff stated there were few spots left. They were able to put us in a water and electric (30 amp) site long enough that we did not have to disconnect towed car. Water was shared with neighboring site and already in use so we did not attempt to use water but rather used what we had in tanks. Our site (64) was level dirt/gravel with a little grassy area. Men's bathroom was clean. Didn't use women's. Good overnight stop. Attached restaurant was not tried but we were told they would deliver to sites.

Pulled off the road for gas and found this park. Easy night check in, good rates. Sites are wide gravel with picnic tables. Some have sewer, all have water and electric and some have cable. WiFi is free but weak in some parts of the park. Lots of people had dogs (like us) but it was quiet and clean. You can hear I40 traffic outside, but it's far enough away from the highway not to be bothersome. Showers were clean and easy to access. This park is now on our list of "go-to" stops when traveling from Arizona to the Midwest!

The manager, Chris, could not have been more personable when we called to make a reservation and when we checked in and out. The registration office includes a well-stocked store (including RV supplies) and a gift shop, all of which could use a good dusting. We took advantage of the 10% gift shop discount mentioned in the campground rules. We did not take advantage of the on-site restaurant, but that's a nice feature. Wifi was reliable. The bathroom/shower building is dated but clean. We did not want cable, so Chris factored that out of our rate, which also reflects a Good Sam discount. I took our dog for a long walk on the sidewalks adjacent to old Route 66. We would definitely stay here again on our way through.

| Prairie Wolf

By user-5844979... on 2017-10-23.

All things considered this is really a great park for one or two night stays. Fuel on average is 10 to 12 cents cheaper than any other stops on I-40 on the east side of NM. Wide open spaces and they are all pull-thru. All with elec and water, sewer only on some.

| We'll be back!

By user-4893436... on 2017-10-23.

Excellent security. Honest and helpful owners. On site restaurant is a treat. Had a wonderful stay for 4 days and we will definitely stay again when we get back. There are sand spurs on the grounds and insects all around, but it is part of the wilderness here!

| Good!

By user-6554790... on 2017-10-23.

A one night stop in our 5th wheel. Close to I 40 but far enough away that it is quiet. A well marked entrance made it easy to find. We called ahead and asked for full hook ups, as not every site has them. We had a pull-thru level site. The breaker to our site was on the fritz but the owner came and plugged us in to one that was working. Be forewarned that there is a lot of prickly goatweed all over the grounds. Both my husband and our dog got them stuck in their "paws". Bathrooms and showers were clean and well appointed. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

I have traveled all over this country. I stayed here one year ago and seems like this is getting run-down. I do think they are alittle overpriced for what you get. They are really more interested in getting you to eat at the restaurant. It's great if you want to order in and stay in, they deliver to your site. Nice feature. I don't think I will be staying here again, sorry. But there are more parks close by that does not charge this much for so little :-(

We got to the CG. about 6PM. The fellow at the desk was busy telling, what seemed to be invented war stories and encounters with the local sheriff when he gets drunk. Apparently I was completely invisible. He finally finished long enough to ask me if I was a drunk like him. I simply asked for an electric/water pull-thru site. I was wearing a Coast Guard insignia on my hat. 30 year retiree. He asked "why I wasn't in the real Navy". I said I was for 8 years & did a tour in Nam. When I got to the site it was a full hookup and too unlevel for my rig. No leveling system. He expressed his disatisfaction with me but assigned me another space. I later called to inquire if the credit card will be adjusted to reflect the $15 cheaper, electric only, site. He grufly replied NO because I requested the change. NOT goin back.

This place is a gem right off of historic US 66 easily accessed by interstate 40. The lots or large, easy hook up. they have a store with lots of great little knickknacks and a restaurant that delivers to your door. We brought food with us and didn't use the restaurant. | A Great Stop

By user-5901003... on 2018-03-14.

Just wanted to clean up and stage for my final leg into Lubbock, TX. Read all the reviews and made sure I Registered before driving into the park. Walked in with a smile and was treated like family. Both Chris and Matthew were helpful and gracious. Had a great chat with Matthew about Home towns, retirement and taxes. Later found out he was the cook in the restaurant as well as the front desk host. I knew they would deliver the BBQ to my RV but I wanted to experience the ambiance so dined in. The food was excellent but not presumptuous. Family owned Cafe style. Chris came in and shared a little humor with everyone and gave a word of caution about the likely freeze coming. Much appreciated. A short walk back to the RV and I saw Chris visiting the guest campers to warn about what to do to get through the freeze. All in all a pleasurable experience that will not be my last. The park is manicured dirt with level slots and clean hookups. Showers are small but with plenty of hot water pressure. I’ll be back.

| Wild, Wild West

By user-5893442... on 2018-03-14.

Santa Rosa the town is like a ghost town. It appears to be a very depressed area with lots of businesses that are closed and run down. The “big attraction”- The Blue Hole- is not worth the time to drive over to it, and it’s just a mile and a half away. As for the RV Park, it’s the best thing we found in the Santa Rosa/Tucumcari area based on reviews and actually seeing some of the other options. The RV Park is a good size and was mostly empty, with a few long-term residents scattered throughout and with maybe 5 RV’s including us that overnighted. Our site was kind of tight, especially with the tree. There are other sites that looked to have more room. It is very dusty but that’s just New Mexico period. The cable was great. the owner, is quite a character. Some can handle him and others can’t. We had no problems with him and got along fine, but the rig beside us not so much. Other than that, the Pilot just up the road is a great fuel stop, appears fairly new, and was all I could do to refrain from the temptation of the Auntie Anne’s cinnamon rolls!

| No cancellation policy

By user-5770977... on 2018-03-14.

I emailed the campground and followed-up with a phone call to make a two night reservation--three months away. The very first comment was that "there is no cancellation policy". Somehow I missed that important piece of information on their website. While I certainly understand a "fee or penalty" for a cancellation, the attitude just said "we do not care if you use us or not". And, I will not.

Wouldn’t take a reservation told me to just show up and register myself since we were going to be there after hours. We arrived at 7pm, He drove up while we were registering and was very rude, worst camp host we’ve ever seen.

We came in with out a reservation and was greeted by Chris. He is so funny! Made our bad day Great. Found us a shop to fix our MH slides and even helped with the repairs! Matt and Bernie have been there with Chris for a few years and are the most wonderful staff. The Rib's in the Restaurant are to die for, the best ever, don't forget the Peach Cobbler. We highly recommend this campground to all those that travel through. Beautiful scenery, large pull through's and the Bath rooms are spotless. Very safe and secure after hours. Thank you Chris for a Wonderful experience.

Chris is a really nice guy... however I can't understand the higher ratings... this place is okay... our pull-through FHU space was a bit tight and not level. The WiFi is weak. It is mostly dirt and stickers... be careful walking the dog. Otherwise, it is a pretty average park and good for a night. There really isn't much to the town.

| Great for a Short Stop

By user-5251281... on 2018-07-06.

This was a gameday decision to stop as we were attempting to put down some miles toward Colorado Springs. We made the reservations on the fly. Chris was very accommodating and worked us in Friday night on a busy Memorial Day weekend. Many thanks Chris! Campground is neat and tidy, sandy/gravel surface as is common in these parts. Some grassy areas in the common areas. Good hookups at our site. Site appear to be rather close together if you are near the front, and more spacious toward the back. Bathhouse was vintage but exceptionally clean, functional and centrally located. Slight highway noise but nothing to keep you wake. Wifi was slow, and did not try the cable but seemed to have a good selection of channels. Chris makes the rouds after dark ensuring all residents are behaving so felt very comfortable here. Will stop again and probably stay an extra day to check out the town of Santa Rosa.

By user-6647628... on 2018-07-06.

We stopped for one night, lots of spaces available. Room between sites is good. Chris was great, don’t listen to people who just wanna be negative! The restaurant was great, the baby back ribs to die for, meat fell off the bone! Will stop again when driving this way!

| OK for a stop over

By user-5726268... on 2018-07-06.

I was unsure, after reading reviews, about stopping here. But it’s a quiet place to lay your head if you’re just passing through. The bathrooms and showers were decent. Not all sites are full hookup. We took a long site for our RV and towed car. Those sites didn’t have sewer, but there was a convenient dump station to pull up to on our way out. It’s cheaper to pull in and do the overnight box than it was to make a reservation ahead of time. Not too crowded, they had plenty of availability when we did the overnight box registration. About 2 Miles from the Blue Hole. It’s worth grabbing you swimming suites and checking out before you leave town if you have time.

Matthew checked us in. Really nice guy and has a great sense of humor! The park is clean and our site was level. Trains go by but not enough to disturb your sleep.

We stayed 8-11 to 8-13 on our way to west coast. Came back and stsyed here again on 9-17. Park is used mostly for one-night stays, so from about 9 or 10 in the morning until about 3-4( or later) in the afternoon, it is pretty vacant. It has a nice pool and a nice restaurant with good food and moderate pricing (half rack of rIbs is very large). Sites are level and a decent size and easy to enter and exit. Gravel roads throughout park. Very good space between sites. Not many night lights around so night sky is beaitiful (also nice for sleeping). Clean bath and showers. Pet friendly. Very easy on and off I-40. Blue hole just a few blocks away and a nice day-park. Very quiet park. Beautiful sunsets. We will stay here again.

We read reviews and compared to others in area. Figured at price one person posted it would be fair. We wanted 50 amp and water. With Good Sam discount price was $32.76. Cable and sewer costs extra. With RV antenna - no TV. Restaurant and pool closed for the day. Disappointed.

We overnighted here on our trip from California to Florida pulling our Airstream. Great showers and bath area. We did not use the water nor did we use the sewer connection. Perfect for our needs!

Great place to stay overnight or for a few days. Very friendly staff and they have a restaurant there. They even deliver to your camp site!

By user-5323288... on 2019-08-09.

Pulled in decided to stay 2 nights. Clean, affordable, and smoked meat restaurant on site. We ended up staying for 5 nights. Would definitely stay here again. If you are traveling on a motorcycle they have some great tent sites. And if you are active duty military you stay for free.

Says 50 amp, but we could only find 30 amp. Sewage is separated from the sites, and the entire park slopes downhill. We were not impressed, however the positive is that the park is quiet. Checking in was easy.
