We stayed 2 nights a little crowded but nice Rain had brought the water level up so high that it was under the back of some units and some lot were unable to be used , could only see tops of fire rings and bottom of benches of picnic tables Needs some TLC on some lots but would stay again if we are around here
Quiet park except for an occasional train coming through
Beautiful setting with fabulous biking trail. Full hookups. However, showers water is cold...barely 85 degrees using a laser thermometer. Reported the situation several times to maintenance people to no avail. If government workers had to shower in these facilities, they would see that they got fixed! After talking with several campers, we found that this is an ongoing situation that no one wants to or can't fix.
This campground had everything, and was so nice that I was utterly amazed. We had a site that we could have parked three rigs in, next to a pond with ducks and two tiny gators. We had a fire ring, there were many walking trails, there was k kayaking practically at our front door. The admin building is cozy with books etc. The staff is very friendly. You can bike to the beach. Well located for Fort Pierce and places south. Laundry spots are few, so get there in the early am, or at night.
Not only are facilities difficult for disabled, but do not honor discounts as offered by State & National Park system. While close to Savannahs State Park, NOT part of FSP's, and it shows. Park of last resort.
Stayed 2 weeks after Easter so a bit off season. Lots of sites, quiet in spite of the trains to the east. Actually far enough away that they don't wake you up. Nice trails, a wonderful bike / hiking trail and nice kayaking (only $5/hr!) in canal right outside the door. Watched cranes, egrets, herons and storks foraging close to the campsite. I hear winter is busy so reserve but after Easter had our pick of sites!
I grew up not far from here and had visited some years ago as a kid. The park has improved dramatically from what I remember. Very well kept and clean. Sites are big and quite a few are shaded or partitioned with vegetation. Very quiet with the occasional train that comes by. Great dog park and lots of hiking trails and places to fish and a nice playground for the kids. We stayed in a 44' motor home and had plenty of room for our truck and friends to park while visiting. This is county park so we paid out of county rates but it is still a bargain.
Bathrooms, especially the showers were poorly maintained. Drains in women’s showers were so clogged you ended up standing in several inches of water. Floors were dirty because you had to walk thru dirt & grass to get to the bathroom. Very poor planning. Won’t be going back although the location is great.
That comment below about the woman's bathroom is true. My wife ran into to the same plugged drain. While the showers are warm they are not hot. But... The view is great the sites are not too close with some being shaded. There is also a walking path to see wild life which is handicap accessible if that is important to you. Verizon is good, 3 bars and a site with full hook-up was $28.
Good sized sites, easy to navigate with large rig, office manager very good to deal with and Mr Wayne the camp host is great! There is lots of wildlife and adventures to embark on. The only grip is the grounds and maintenance people don t do much, not very friendly and are lazy. they leave it up to Wayne to keep the place up and that s not an easy task for a retired man. That s what we saw in the 5 months we were there.
