Reviews for Sesquicentennial State Park

| Just OK

This is quite a find in the metro of Columbia. The sites are gravel without any attention in apparently many years. Therefore a few are eroded and extremely unlevel. Electric is 20 & 30 amp with very old boxes and even rusted. Office open 11 to 12 and 4 to 5 daily. Arrive after hours and available sites posted on bulletin board. Several miles off the highway and quiet. Many available sites on Thursday note but unsure about the weekend but I suspect sites are always available.

Office only open 11 to 12 and 4 to 5. No host in campground. Ranger will come by to register- just pick a site. Ranger wanted $23.46 for site but had no way to make change. All I had was $20 bills. What genius sent this person out to collect money without any way to make change???? My 8 year old is smarter than that.

This is a really nice little park in the middle of urban sprawl. We stopped here for one night on our way to Asheville from the South Carolina coast, and we were pleasantly surprised. Lovely bike and walking trails. Spacious sites amongst the pine trees. Playgrounds and a splash park. Also a big lake with kayak and boat rentals. Great campground.

After reading other reviews I can only assume some vast improvements have been made here at Sesqui State Park. As their office and store is now open ALL day (9-5), even off season. It is filled with very nice staff, many maps, tour guides and cute wares. I love the Lake and surrounding trail here. We walk it every day, and thoroughly enjoy it. Very well maintained, paved in most areas, quaint well-built foot bridges and beautiful view of the Lake and a nearby small waterfall. A very nice, but small sanded beach where boats can be rented. Very nice playground in the park with ample vending machines. The loop road is still stone, but now is very well maintained and in great condition. New stone appears to have been laid down. Still no campground hosts. I like the convenience and proximity to Columbia, since for me transportation is a problem. ANY amenity, restaurant, lodging, grocery store, several pharmacies, etc are literally within 3 miles from site. All the signage is visible and well done. Several maps available at the office including trail maps. There is a dog park here (which I did not visit) and a splash pool for the kids. However the splash pool had no hours posted and was closed the entire two weeks here. The bathrooms are heated, but the showers are luke warm at best with poor water pressure. The park office is a bit of a walk from the camp sites. As well as the only garbage dumpster, which was vastly overflowing on the weekends.

Great park, nice lake to kayak on. Good trails. Campground sites, most are level and good sized, some are thrown together and you would bearly know. They do lock Gates around 7 but will give you a code. I didnt use facilities so no comment on them. I would stay again.

Brought our 21 ft travel trailer for the weekend, and we really enjoyed our stay. We stayed in the second loop. Walked and biked the lake trail. The scenery is beautiful, and the park rangers are friendly. In fact, everyone who works there was great. The guy at the store was super friendly and helpful as I asked about the trails. We'll be back again.

Stayed here 2 nights - must say we were very impressed. Nicely shaded and quite. Only things - sites are dirt/gravel thus are not level (which we knew when making the reservation), they only have 30 amp sites (which we also knew). Neither was a problem for us. We simply put down leveler pads and only ran 1 ac unit. Price was great $21 virtually had the campground to ourselves
