Very close to fellow campers and the parking spots were not angled. Makes it harder for a big rig. Conveniently close to town, yet secluded.
Asked for an easy pull thru site, got one. Paid $9 for the day pass & $28 for the site. Drove around the whole park, very nice. Lots of families. Expecting a storm tonight, will see how that goes.
Stayed overnight in the lower loop near the water. We lucked out on a nice secluded site. Off season so the check in was awkward (yellow phone at the office). Bathrooms and showers were great. The lower loop was tight in a 30’ motorhome, but hey who doesnt like a challenge? My biggest gripe is if theyre gonna make you buy firewood at the campground at least put a little effort into providing dry wood.
I thought this campground was great. If you have a large rig (ours is 30 ft.) stick to the upper campground. The lower campground is tight and better suited for small trailers and tents. Very clean. Friendly staff.
Sight we stayed on was not level at all. The sight is dirt and sandy. They add nine dollars a day for day pass plus the cost of site rental. Don't stay here if you don't have leveling jacks. There 4 showers for the lower camp group. They need to invest some of the money on leveling the sites . Will not stay here again.
Conveniently location to Mackinac Island with shuttle service to the ferry. Only reason it s not a five is they have a couple inside the park selling firewood that absolutely wouldn t burn. Don t Buy the Firewood!
One of the nicest state parks we ve stayed at. Level site, clean park, good facilities. Awesome trails. We stayed in the upper loop site 290. Very private full shade. Had we got there two days later the Trolley would have been running. Runs from the park all the way to Castle Rock $4 for a day pass.
Straits State Park - beautiful! But very costly for out-of-staters! Had to pay $43/night w/camp fee and Passport or some such nonsense. 2 nights cost us $86. No hot water in showers, electricity only - no water or sewer hookup, had to park sideways & use every leveling block/ramp to get close to level. Grew up in Michigan, grad of MSU, combat wounded vet, BUT now live in another state, so get all the extra charges. Will never use a Michigan State Park again. Military FamCamps charge $17/night; most private $20-28. Come to Arkansas State Parks to see how it is done right! Jim
Like the park and would visit again, but should indicate that there are sites very tight (backing into) for RVs. Ex. On the hill like site 33 There are many trees in the way , curves and other vehicles parked very close to the roadway .Should be tent or pop up sites.
