Cons: I'm not sure with the previous reviewer was talking about but the Wi-Fi is not good. It goes up and down constantly. We're parked right next to the wireless access point and I have to walk to the closest window, and put my phone to up to it for a direct sight line to get connected and then go sit down and hopefully stay connected (50/50 chance). There is no beach access. The first night we were excited to walk to the beach and we couldn't get there because of a huge irrigation ditch. We could hear the waves, just not see them or get to them. And there are stickers/burrs everywhere that hurt the feet of my little dog and that get in our shoes. There are rundown trailers that look like they may be rentals. The whole park/town is rundown in appearance (can't speak for bathrooms...did not use them). No laundry room that we could see. We did not have cable, a table or fire pit (although I saw a fire pit at the tent sites and tables at other rv sites) Pros: Within 5 minutes drive to gorgeous sparsely populated beaches perfect for sand castles, kite flying, sunset watching, beach combing activities. 20 minutes north is Seabrook which is the most darling beach town I've ever seen. The price at the Dunes can't be beat with Passport America at $15/nt. The rules and manager are relaxed. The full timers seemed fine. We almost left the first day due to WiFi and visual appearance but I'm glad we stayed 4 nts. The beaches are like no beaches I've ever been to! We enjoyed them tremendously.
We aren't RV resort people. We want level sites in a safe, quiet park at a fair price and The Dunes more than met that. Are there RV's here that are the poster children for the corrosive effects of ocean front living? You betcha! Driving around and looking at many of the other RV parks in the area, most of them also had a few rough RV's in them. There is a small, tight knit little community that lives here at The Dunes year round. From what we could see, they were a combination of working poor and disabled but they were all pleasant and friendly. They all seem to look after each other and ride share to shop, dine and for doctors. We should all be so lucky to have people we can count on when the chips are down. The manager was friendly and went out her way to make sure we were happy here. Anyway, what we got for our $15 a night (Passport America rate) was an RV site with 66 cable channels that was off the road and quiet, with gorgeous sunsets out our front door. The bath house had older showers but they were quite clean with plenty of hot water. We also slept like babies with our windows open and the wonderful sound of the surf. There are also some tent sites that I would have enjoyed back in my tent-camping youth. I've paid a lot more for a lot worse. I'll happily come back to The Dunes again next time we visit Ocean Shores.
This place doesn't look really good but it has everything you need. The showers and restrooms are old but clean. You are walking distance from the beach. They have cable, and the best wifi I have every seen in a RV park. For its cheap price I would definitely stay there again.
