Wales West RV Resort

A previous reviewer described Wales West as having potential, but improvement was needed. I couldn t agree more. It is obvious that Wales West RV Resort invests heavily in their train railway and seasonal decorations, as there were an incredible number of inflatable Halloween-themed decorations all over the train station area and along the tracks. Colored lights, a Halloween-decorated hay-ride, a petting zoo, pony rides, and costumed adults round out the experience. Over the weekend we saw many families here to take in the Halloween festivities. However, the RV Resort (and I use Resort very loosely) itself, needs considerable improvement. How this campground earned a Good Sam rating of 9/9/8 is curious to me. While the site we were in was level, it had a mixture of sand, gravel and, weeds as a base. The water and electric connects were OK, but the sewer placement required me to take the hose up/over a railroad tie and then down to the ground and then back up to the sewer pipe to have the correct angle for water flow. The cable at this site never worked and while this was reported to the office, a repair was not successful in fixing during our 4-night stay. Another challenge was the cable wire connection. It required that I have a female to female adapter to connect my cord to the CATV cord at the pedestal. I ve never run into this before and fortunately one of the employees on the ground gave me one from his personal toolbox. WIFI was also iffy at best and we needed to be close to one of the signals to get decent reception. The playground looked very good and had a variety of newer looking equipment for kids to enjoy. Wales West has a club room which we say decked out for a child s birthday party. There is also an indoor pool (we did not use) and a lake for swimming and fishing. While we walked around the lake, we did not use this amenity either. The decking on the far side of the lake was huge but littered with leaves and acorns and looked generally unkempt. This was in stark contrast to a COE campground we had just visited, as much was done there to keep the sites and grounds looking clean and tidy. We also used the laundry facilities while at Wales and one of the new washers did not fully spin to remove water from our clothes. This required us to hand-squeeze each piece of clothing and then run the dryer through two cycles (at $2.00 each) to fully dry. Finally, the RV sites are close together, with many full-time or long-term units present. Weeds, trash and generally unkempt conditions were common at many/most of the sites. We rarely opened our shades and spent most of our stay either inside our trailer or touring the area for hours at a time.

I made a reservation by phone and then called back and cancelled 15 minutes later and they still charged a $50.00 desire. I don't mind paying for a service, but this is unfair and shows a lack of respect for their first.
