Reviews for West Lake Park

| Best overnight place we've ever stayed at!

By user-6199401... on 2017-10-23.

County park but very clean & inexpensive. Staff friendly & helpful. Few choices of snacks for purchase at office. Gate closes by 10:15pm so be sure you have your supplies before then because you can't enter otherwise. Campsites were of ample size for our bus 35 ft long. We took a back in spot near the bathrooms. No problems backing in. They have some pull-through spots. No reservations allowed. They have trails, lakes w/ water activities (byo), & handicapped accessible. Bathrooms were very clean. There are 5 private showers in each bathroom by the office. There is a hook to put your towel on, but you put your stuff on the bench, shelf, or hooks outside stalls to keep them dry. The handicap shower stall has a shower seat and ample spacing for person & caregiver.

Beautiful well thought out campground. Clean restrooms, full hookups- nice shade trees, campfire ring and picnic table. Clean campground. We only spent one night here since we were passing thru but could have stayed longer to enjoy the lake. This seems like a popular place for the locals to camp, from what some of them shared with us it fills up on the weekend. This is a first come first serve campground, they do not take reservations. First find your spot then go check in. $22.00

| Found a good one

After two bad experiences with parks it was wonderful to find this. We pulled in for a overnight stay on our way to Bloomington Illinois and a park ranger stopped while we were parking he said he would take our fee to the office so we would not have to unhook, very polite gentlemen. We would stop again anytime we are in the area

Pull through sites. Nice bath houses. We paid $20.00, to me that's the downside when your use to paying less. This is a very beautiful place lots of trees. Very quiet.

| Great spot- great price!

Wonderful park with an amazing disc golf course. First come, first serve. No reservations. You find a spot and then pay at the office. $23 elect, water, and sewer. Nice lake and nature trail. Stayed in our 37' 5er. Loved it!!

| Nice place with full hook-ups

By user-6294392... on 2017-10-23.

There are two different campgrounds here. At Gate 5 there are full hook-ups and only back-in sites. At Gate 1 with there are pull throughs with only water and electricity. Bathrooms were very clean. Gate 5, particularly fills up in the mid-week as people pull-in for the weekend. Both locations had many families. Gates are closed every night, so if you plan to arrive late or leave early, leave your car in the overflow. Only 4 stars because the Gate 5 host camper was surprisingly unpleasant.

Just 5 minutes off Hwy 80. Very clean, cement slabs, green grass, nice shade and over 70 spaces. Gate 5 has back-in spaces only with full hookups. Gate 1 has pull thru sites, with just water and electric.

Stayed in October 2016. Stayed in gate 5 which is back in camping. Gate closed at 10:30 p.m. but plenty of parking right outside the park with walk in to site. Very clean park with mature trees. Restrooms and showers are very clean. Sites are gravel and fairly level. Wood available for sale along with popcorn and candies. Will definitely stay again. $23.00 night but $21.00 for us seniors.

This is a fantastic campground in a county park. Full hookups in one area for $23 a night; another area has water and electric for $21 per night. It is immaculately maintained. Good satellite reception in our site. Very friendly, with lots of local Iowans camping here. One of the nicest campgrounds I've stayed in. No full-time residents, no sites with lots of junk. Some road noise along the outer sites, but very tolerable. Gates close at 10:30 at night. Would definitely stay here again. Nice area.

We have camped here many times and have always had a great time. Fishing is great (3 lakes). Play areas for the kids, clean bathroom and shower facilities and the camp host is very pleasant. Rates are $21 for elec and water, and $23 for full hookup.

Stayed at the Gate 1 area. Camp host drove us over to check in office at Gate 5 after we got set up so that we did not have to unhook the trailer. Non-resident Senior Discount knocks a couple bucks off the $21 fee. Sites are level, clean and mowed!
