No electricity or showers but very affordable and nicely located on a bug mountain in woods. Great place!
Elk Mountain Campground is right in Wind Caves a short drive to the Visitor Center and Cave Tours. The camp consists of 3 circle of sites. Circle A, Circle B, Circle C. The roads are paved and the sites are parallel to the road. There is enough room for other RVs to still drive by but would be more difficult if you have slide-outs on both sides of your trailer. There are a few back-in sites for small tow units are van-units. There is a picnic table and fire ring at each site. You can buy firewood (honor system) and pay for your site as you enter the campground. Several nights a week there is an evening ranger program. FYI: although the campgrounds isn't very busy and usually has campsites available don't let it fool you, this is a very popular park. Go first thing in the morning to book your cave tours (can only book day of tour). We took the Natural Cave Entrance Tour which is the most popular one. Also take time to view the wildlife above ground. Saw prairie dogs, black-footed ferret, and bison.
Nice and Quiet. Excellent Location. Many Flush toilets and sinks.
Found a fairly level pull through site partially shaded by a ponderosa grove, picnic tables, fire pit, restrooms, no showers, no hookups. The area is fenced so the bison herd cannot roam in the campground. Will definitely stay here again
Saw a coyote headbut a buffalo. Buffalo did not move an inch whereas the coyote just turned a trotted off. Inside the fence we saw a deer leap into the campground. Lot of action for one day. Large rigs 50 foot park 3 feet from the road whereas small rigs 25, can back in 20 feet from the road
Great campground, close to several parks. Camp hosts (Jim and Kay) were very nice. Was glad to see snow plow come through.
